Error events on Win8.1

Folks
I'm getting a lot of these Errors recorded in Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: backgroundTaskHost.exe, version: 6.3.9600.16384, time stamp: 0x52157d67
Faulting module name: combase.dll, version: 6.3.9600.16408, time stamp: 0x523d3001
Exception code: 0xc000027b
Fault offset: 0x000fa5bd
Faulting process ID: 0x14a4
Faulting application start time: 0x01cefea15daf3d43
Faulting application path: C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\backgroundTaskHost.exe
Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\combase.dll
Report ID: ef85d747-6ab0-11e3-bebe-00248c3f8830
Faulting package full name: LogosBibleSoftware.Bible_1.1.0.1_x86__h0wrhs0ttj2c8
Faulting package-relative application ID: App
Are the errors significant? Do I need to do anything about it?
Cheers
Ken

Are you running desktop Logos 5 when these occur or the Bible app (in the Metro interface)?
Can you start/run the program normally?

The error is happening when neither the desktop program nor the start/metro app are running. Tonight the error occurred six times while I was away from the computer and neither program nor app was running.
Both will start normally.
Thanks

Dave,
I am also getting these errors when both the app and the desktop programs are closed. It is causing my C drive to run at 100%. I am not sure if there is a new driver that must be installed for Win 8.1 or not.
Thanks for any and all help.

Other users have reported problems with backgroundTaskHost.exe in Windows 8 (you can Google the filename) but I would urge you to click the More Information link in the Event Viewer's General tab to see if there is information online. It seems to fail with relatively little impact but I don't get problems with it (in Windows 8). In fact I just discovered Event logs for a frequently failing service executable from Intel but haven't noticed any impact over the past 3 months!

Not sure how to respond to this. Does Task Manager identify that background task as driving the disk activity? How long does it last? How have you made the connection?

The More Information link takes me to a Page Not Found on TechNet. A search for backgroundtaskhost.exe didn't turn up anything useful.
backgroundTaskHost.exe is part of syswow64. Could there be a 32bit component of Logos that doesn't play well with Win8.1 64bit?

Or could it be that LogosBibleSoftware.Bible_1.1.0.1_x86__h0wrhs0ttj2c8 starts up OK, does its thing and then doesn't exit properly so that backgroundTaskHost reports it as an error?
Any other wild guesses? :-)

It is part of \System32 on a 32-bit Windows 8 machine, but 64-bit Windows manages 32-bit components via \Syswow64. It is not on Windows 7, so I suspect backgroundTaskHost.exe is responsible for running the 32-bit Metro Apps like Bible. Metro apps don't really close and are suspended when not active so they don't consume computer resources. You close them by touching & holding the the top edge and dragging down. You can then experiment to see if the error occurs whilst you are running it (active), whilst you are running desktop apps (not active) or when it is closed!

G'day Dave
I checked in Action Centre : Problem Reports. The error has happened 100 times since 10 December. Most of those times the app wasn't running or paused in the background. Today the error occurred every hour since I turned on my computer at about the same time (13 mins past the hour). I checked in Task Manager and neither the app nor backgroundTaskHost was running. I started the app up and left it running while I returned to my desktop and monitored what was happening with Task Manager and Event Viewer. After a while the error occurred again and both the app and backgroundTaskHost disappeared from Task Manager. The app was still represented in the switcher panel by the Logos symbol not by the thumbnail image that is normally there. Clicking on it restarted the app from scratch.
Desktop Logos was running for part of the time and doesn't seem to have any impact on the errors.
There are a few other apps having errors with backgroundTaskHost but most are in single figures for the same time frame.
It looks like the app tries to do something in the background every hour, irrespective of whether it is running or not, and fails.
Cheers

Time for Logos to comment.

Every hour, if the device is plugged in to AC power and connected to the Internet, a background task runs that synchronizes your app settings. It should execute quickly and not cause any errors. Please run the app, open Settings > Support > Share log files, and e-mail your logs to ed at logos. Hopefully the logs will give more details about what is failing. Thanks!

Done,
See your email.
Thanks

Thanks for your help! The background task is doing its work successfully but a deadlock is preventing it from exiting properly, which forces Windows to terminate it. The deadlock will be fixed in the next release of the app.
