Where can we find and update the resource paths within Logos4? In Logos 3 this was under Tools | Options | General | Resource Paths.
Thanks for your help.
It's in a hidden folder, now. On Vista 64, it's:
C:\Users\YOURuserid\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\v0n4xkdf.03w\ResourceManager\Resources
Its in the wiki, you cant change it without playing with the system making logical links.
But you can change your install path, Again its in the wiki, there are instructions on how to move your whole directory.
try http://wiki.logos.com
So, It looks like the short answer is that Logos4 has lost the ease of use functionality of Logos 3 when it comes to identifying and including resource paths in a quick and easy manner.
if you have resources to add use the scan command, they get copied into the install directory
That's what it would look like if you wanted to be negative about it, yes. Or you could be positive about it and say that Logos is taking the headache out of it for you. Your choice.
Thanks Bill -- found it now. Still, is there the ability to permanently add additional resource paths as in Logos 3?
Hi David,
L4 apparently wants them all in one place & in its own format for indexing. The Wiki has best complete info on all the ramifications for anything we'd want to do differently ala L3. Use scan to allow L4 to copy them over.
So, there's no longer a need for us to manage resource paths... Bob said the design goal was to put all the "stuff" in the background, so Bible study could assume the foreground (my words, his thought). This is one of those areas where they've succeeded (if I change my way of doing things & think like L4). Thinking like L3 in this area only makes me cranky at the "loss" of control. I have to keep remembering why I NEEDED the control in L3 in the 1st place... Then I realize that they've really done well here... Changing the way I think is hard.
Blessings!
Bill
Randall,
I'm not trying to be negative, just trying to understand how this all works.
Just how does Logos4 find our resources? Does it do an entire HDD scan to find them each time we ask it to refresh resources (is this still available to be done?). Or is it just looking within the Logos and Libronix folders. I ask, because before we could put resources anywhere on our HDD as long as the user put in the path to the resources.
Thanks Bill,
I think I'm getting the concept.
So, If we had resources outside of Libronix folders do we need to put them in Libronix' general resource folder? And do all resources need to be in the general resource folder or can we keep the sub folders created for things like PBBs and LIX/LSF resources? This is where it gets confusing for me. As for the Wiki -- I can't seem to navigate it to where I can find out about this stuff -- thanks for your patience.
Blessings.
before we could put resources anywhere on our HDD as long as the user put in the path to the resources.
Hi David, it's just looking within the Logos & Libronix folders. After it gets your licenses for any L3 resources, it downloads L4 equivalents & doesn't even use the L3 resources. They're used only by L3. L4 was a complete rewrite, so my expectation for things to work as they did in L3 has often been unmet. However, if I was open to CHANGE (hard!), it's often better.
Hope this helps,
PBBs and LIX/LSF resources?
I couldn't find it on the Wiki either, but if my memory serves, others in your thread have told you accurately what's possible--even if we can't find it in the wiki.
EDIT: Check out this thread... http://community.logos.com/forums/t/7980.aspx
For PBBs, L4 doesn't yet read PBBs, so for them you'll have to keep your L3 going... manage L3 just like you have in the past.
LIX/LSF are for L2. After getting the license, L4 auto-downloads the L4 equivalents for them, too. Truly, they've taken the hassle out of backing up & managing all the books. The cost is downloading & indexing, but so far it seems like a good trade.
