Is the Exodus historical?

Oh goodness. We don't want George to bring up the Jebusite problem too!

Wasn't Jerusalem part of the land of the Jebusites, which Israel then took over following the exodus... would that answer the seeming contradiction?
According to Joshua/Judges Jerusalem formed a coalition with other "kings" [more like town mayors] to resist Israel. Here we get the famous account of the sun standing still. Eventually this alliance is defeated and the "king" taken. In Judges, however, it says "21 But the Benjaminites did not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem; so the Jebusites have lived in Jerusalem among the Benjaminites to this day" (Jdg 1.21). David is said to have taken the head of Goliath to Jerusalem (1 Sam 17.54). It was David, however, who is said to have captured Jerusalem by ascending through the water conduit after the taunt that even the blind and the lame would repel him (2 Sam 5.6-10).

I really feel the need to weigh in on this thread, too.
