double space in copy and paste

A small irritation ....
when some resources (eg HCSB) and copy/pasted into Word 2010, the footnotes are not included but are replaced by a SPACE.
This means that in the Word 2010 document there are many DOUBLE SPACES. These can easily be found and replaced with single spaces, but it is irritating (I am so fussy!) that I have to do it every time.
