So indulge me for a moment. Hours pass by but in reality it's only nano seconds. The weather? Perfect in every sense for you. Time of day? Yours. Even the time of year is already in your mind. Your study? Old church building, modern structure, or somewhere else, but you know what and where it is. Place? Anywhere, but you know the perfect place. Your topic? All of them or your favourite one. Maybe the life of Moses, an OT book, a Biblical language, a historical figure, but you know what it is.
Your fantasy is so well worn and honed because it's been with you for years, many years for some. At times your last thoughts before your eyes close for the night are swallowed up with them. And for some, it is still on your mind from beginning of sleep, through your dream state and the moment your ears hear the alarm. Bravo!
Mine involves the Swiss Alps, an A-frame home with a study in the loft. Open french-style windows look through a channel of dark green pines through to the Alps. Fresh spring air gently fills my study. All walls are lined with book shelves holding old and musty volumes of wisdom, strength and thought. Every book of valuable and serious learning are at hand. A virtual Alexandria.
Why the Swiss Alps? No doubt because of my German heritage. Born and raised with classical music in the background and a father who played in a symphony. Boyhood friends whose parents actually made them wear lederhosen and neighbourhood girls who were named Heidi and Gertrude. My first experience of a movie theatre came to me through the Von Trapp family as they sang they way through Vienna and of course those magnificent Alps. No longer is the Sound of Music played on the silver screen, but every once and a while the blue ray edition is played which illicit a chorus of Edelweiss from some family member who passes by and in jest tones out that song.
If you're reading this and thinking, "What a dreamer!" Let me quote you some words by a dude named John.
Imagine there's no countries, Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can, no need for greed or hunger a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer, But I'm not the only one, I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one.
So here is my question: "What authors (Reformed, Baptist) would you include in your fantasy in the following areas?"
- OT/NT theologies
- NT/OT commentaries
- Systematic/Biblical theologies
- Devotional/contemplative or pastoral works (biographies, church history)
- or any other that you may think of.
Well, thanks for indulging me and look forward to hearing from some fellow (male/female) dreamers.
