Cross-reference links in NIV2011

The screenshot below is an extract from Mark 15 from NIV2011 with a couple of cross-references highlighted in red

I find it strange that the links aren't based on the complete pericope in Mark (starting from verse 2 instead of verse 1 and verse 22 instead of verse 21)

The cross-references link to the "correct" places (i.e. the equivalent parallels missing out the missing verses)

I came across this yesterday when trying to work out why the reference to Matthew didn't include the comment about Simon which is present in the Matthew account (but in verse 32 so it doesn't get included)

Does anyone have a paper copy of NIV2011 against which they can check if the cross-references are the same as in the Logos version?

Thanks, Graham

I don't have a paper copy of NIV2011, but the parallel references are the same in the NIV1984 Study Bible. I think only major parallels are included. Matthew 27:1-2 is parallel to Mark 15:1. But then in verses 3-10 Matthew has the account of Judas hanging himself, which is present only in his Gospel. So the NIV ignores the smaller parallel and only shows the parallels for Mark 15:2-15. Similarly, Mark 15:21, Luke 23:26 and Matthew 27:32 are all parallel. But then Luke, in Luke 23:27-31, has the women following Jesus. Thus the NIV lists only the major parallels to Mark 15:22-32, namely, Matt. 27:33-44; Luke 23:33-43 and John 19:17-24. I find the Synopsis of Matthew, Mark and Luke by Jackson and the Synopsis of the Four Gospels by Aland helpful for sorting out the parallels.

I see what you mean - though I admit I find it somewhat confusing!

At least I know to look out for it in the future

    Thanks,
