I have a .VOB video from Luis Palau to advertise an upcoming event, but I cannot seem to get the video to post. If I rename it as a .mpg it will load, but not play. Any ideas? Thanks.
Did you drag the .vob file straight off of a DVD? If so, that won't work. If you have a DVD of the video, the best option is to use something like Handbrake (www.handbrake.fr) to encode the video to a usable format for use in Proclaim.
Renaming the file with another extension doesn't change the video format. Video formats are ways that render pixels differently and frames differently. You have to translate that information from one format to another using a video converter.
There are very few times that changing the extension actually works.
Only experienced video editors should do this because it can mess up the file. The only time I do this is when I have a .mt2s video and change it to .mts. I do this because that's the only way some video converters can read the video file (Mac environment). However, the file is being transcoded to another format. Most of time .MOV for me.
I'm fairly certain the only way this is working is because .mt2s and .mts are in the same format "family." It wouldn't work if I changed it from .mt2s to .mov.
Clear as mud? [:)]
Handbrake worked. Thank you very much!!
A .vob file from a DVD *IS* just a MPEG video file and can be renamed to .mpg safely and work fine. That is one of the rare times that will work.
