Transfering control to PowerPoint

I have not run into this issue in house, but I do not have Office Pro 2013 installed at the moment. I will try and reproduce the issue and then I will create a case accordingly.

So I was able to test 'transfer control to powerpoint' and it worked for me. However I do have a few questions. Is PowerPoint running prior to you going on air and navigating to the powerpoint item? If this is the case, try closing PowerPoint (and making sure the process is completely dead by checking if it is running in the task manager) and then going on air and navigating to the powerpoint item.

This morning I have been trying various ways to use PowerPoint (Office 2013) within Proclaim. I have found a way, although a bit awkward,to use my PowerPoint presentation, but not there's another problem. When I complete my presentation in PowerPoint I am kicked off the air and the presentation screen reverts to the desktop screen. I have to go back on air and at that point that's too much of a distraction. What is happening?

I ran into this while testing it out. I noticed that this happens when you change focus from the Proclaim window to the PowerPoint window and then switch through the slides using the arrow keys; is this what is happening to you? I will write up a case for this so it will get fixed in the future. As for the red box, I have never run into this. Which presentation contains the powerpoint giving you issues? I will take a look and see if I can figure out what is going on.

What I did was begin by starting from "scratch" with a PowerPoint presentation. I had used an older PowerPoint presentation (2010) to make my current slides using the compatibility mode and then saved it as a current presentation (2013). When I started from scratch I had less problems and was able to make it work. but now, went it works, it kicks me "off air" when I'm done with the PowerPoint slides. As for the red box it still there on both my office system and our worship center system. I will try to attach a screen image to another post in just a few minutes so that you can see what I am seeing.

The transferring of control to PowerPoint is not very visually smooth as there is a bit of screen flicker. Also, the rendered PP slides to not completely fill the output window. There is a white bar at the bottom and black bars on each side. When using PowerPoint by itself these bars do not show and the slides fill the window. I have tried it with both PowerPoint 2010 and 2013 with the same results.

We just installed 2 new full HD projectors with a very nice digital switcher so the flicker and bars are very noticeable.

I feel like there's no one listening to the issue I am having. Is there anyone else who seems to have this same problem? I first posted my issue on June 10 and for a few days appeared to be having a conversation with Spencer McKimson. After a few weeks of silence and no update, I posted again and also made a phone call. I got an immediate response from Spencer but still no further update. Also, with each update of Proclaim there appears to be further issues and more bugs. I feel we are test subjects for a beta-version trying to get to market and we get to pay for that privilege. My A/V people have asked me to be patient so I'm trying, but I would really appreciate periodic updates at least once a week if not more frequent.

Tom -- Have you found a work around with your issue? As for the "flickering," we haven't been able to do much about that problem. It is very distracting. With the transferring control to PowerPoint issue, we have discovered if we 'click' on the presentation screen we can run PowerPoint . . .BUT . . . we still have the red line around the image and we have to make sure we add an extra slide (like an ending side) so that the operators do not proceed beyond that particular slide. If they do, we are kicked "Off Air" and have to get back to Proclaim for the closing songs and slides. No matter what we do, it is very distracting. Also, I can't seem to get an answer to when or if this problem is correctable.

I was going to ask for an update on my issue, but since the latest upgrade version of Proclaim, there appears to be bigger problems than mine. I am having similar issues with Proclaim as those who are posting on the forum. We will no longer use a work around for transferring control to PowerPoint for sermon presentations. We will be using PowerPoint directly so that Proclaim won't freeze or be kicked off air. It is less disruptive than using PowerPoint within Proclaim. I hope there will be a fix soon. After three years or more in the market place one might think this program would have evolved head and shoulders above its competitors. Yet, with this latest upgrade, there are serious problems. Each upgrade has brought new problems and new challenges with an additional learning curve. Putting together presentations is taking more time as we try learn where things are and how to utilize what we had used in the past. Can I go back to last year's version? There would be at least some familiarity to the program. Perhaps I couldn't use PowerPoint, but I'm not able to do that now, but those using the program would not have to keep learning something new.

Read some of the forum issues after the upgrade and we are having some of the same things. Also, when we change the background of our songs, we have to re-format all fonts and styles. So, if we use a previous song the whole formatting changes when we change the background and more time and energy is expended to re-format what it was before changing the background. I will have my A/V people keep posting various issues each and every Sunday as they occur.

How do I download the beta version? Just opened Proclaim and no update and the same problem. I'm getting very frustrated! Also, I've noticed another post about slides formatting from PowerPoint to Proclaim slides having formatting issues. We too are having similar problems as we tried many different work-arounds with our current problem. The post has to do with a Mac while ours is a PC.

Downloaded Beta version and am having the same results: It may start or it may not -- it flickers two or three times, if it starts there will be a red box around three sides, if it doesn't start there will be a white box around three sides; if it doesn't start, the operator must click once on the presentation screen and hope it works without freezing; I tried it with older versions of PowerPoint presentations ('03, 07, '10) as well as '13, same results; at any given moment Proclaim could freeze and, if I'm lucky, I only have to go"Off Air" to exit out of PowerPoint viewer otherwise I have to close the program and reopen it; slides converted from PowerPoint to Proclaim slides are not always formatted properly; as a side issue, it continues to change font styles (justification, font, font size, and font color) when we change backgrounds on a song. I wish I could say we're making progress, but . . .

Thank you for the feedback. We are still working on improving the 'Transfer to Powerpoint' feature. Could you please attach a powerpoint that is giving you trouble? I would love to test it out and publish bugs as I run into them; it would help greatly on improving the feature.

This is an issue with the third party software we use. We have open cases with them, but all we can do is wait for them to come out with a new version that addresses these problems.

I've been following up with John offline. We have attempted to update to the latest embedded PPT control which claims to fix some PPT 2013 issues. We're having some issues with the new version and are working with their customer support.

The issue only exists on systems with PPT 2013 installed. Though not ideal, a possible workaround is to uninstall PPT 2013 and install 2007 or 2010.

Thanks for working on the problem. going backward to an older version is not an option for us. If that's a problem for others also, our workaround is to open PowerPoint and have it ready; go "On Air" with Proclaim and have an empty slide just prior to the PowerPoint presentation; click on PowerPoint, press "F5" to run the sermon presentation; after the PowerPoint presentation, while in PowerPoint, press "ESC" and now you can resume the "On Air" presentation in Proclaim. We have found this much smoother with little to no disruption with the overall presentation. I hope it helps others.

June 10th seems so long ago particularly since there has been several upgrades and still no resolution to my problem. Also,the last correspondence update to my problem was September 8. The latest upgrade has done nothing to alleviate the problem with PowerPoint and since my problem I have been credited with only one month of service. We continue to pay for something that we are not getting. When will there be a solution?

Hello John, I'm sorry we haven't been as good at keeping you in the loop with this as we should have been.

We're not getting much traction with the third party that provides the control. Right now our current suggested workaround is to use 2010 or earlier versions of PPT which will still work.

We are now faced with having to come up with an alternative solution for embedded PPT 2013 control which is not a small undertaking. I don't have an ETA for when this will be ready but it's on our radar.

It has been two months since our last update with issues concerning transferring control to PowerPoint. This issue has been on your "radar" going back to June of 2014. PowerPoint 2013 has been out for about a year and a half. At what point will this issue rise to a level that it is given priority? If using PowerPoint within your presentation is not feasible, I can understand. Just say so and advertise accordingly.

I am not a programmer so the following question will likely show my lack of knowledge. Is there a way that you could embed PowerPoint Viewer into your presentation program without having to go outside to a third party developer? I have seen other competitors do this with there product. Also, is there a way you can keep me informed about your progress?
