Thank you for the detailed suggestions. We're working on this scenario, but it's going to take some time because each issue brings some baggage. (We don't support private notes at Biblia.com yet, for example, because private notes can already use many highlight styles that we can't render in normal HTML without mixing in SVG or canvas drawing, and that code to implement our whole notes rendering system via the web isn't done yet. And we dont' want to offer 'crippled' private notes online that show some highlighting styles but not all. And that's just one example.)
This is a helpful overview of what you need, though, and will help inform our plans and progress.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
I think this approach for Bible study has a great deal of potential, so MJ is not alone on this, although it seems she is doing the lions share of the work in imagining it. I am interested/lurking to see how it turns out, I could see this being an excellent way to roll out a Bible study group at our parish - I have been asked by parishioners to set one up personally, but so far I have resisted because it needs to be online due to varying schedules.
An approach that uses biblia but promotes gradual introduction to Logos, even getting into Faithlife if needed, would be excellent if it is EASY to set up and use, and for most does not require an immediate purchase (they will buy as they use it and learn to love Logos!) But MJ's comments and thoughts are very real issues as we have many people dying for Bible study but putting it together with current tools and technologies is too overwhelming. Yet some will want/become Logos power users, so that migration is important too. Simple but extensible - that is the way to get people doing it.
I would add once this is in place a video showing how it works might really attract a lot of people with similar needs.
I am convinced I could get 20-30 immediately in an online Bible study using these resources if it was easy to get started. That would be wonderful, and I bet it would grow from there.
Good job, interested in seeing where this goes!
Thanks for the support Don. I am actively pursuing this with Logos and will continue to post drafts of documents, bugs and suggestions. We'll see if I can sell Logos/Verbum on the idea.
