I'm guessing - since I don't have any inside info - that it's at least for two reasons - (1) to see how financially successful pushing Mobile Ed through the CP channel is (without committing all the modules); and (2) to encourage those of us, who haven't bought into Mobile Ed yet, to have a good look at it at a cheap price in the hope we'll buy more modules in the future.
This idea is certainly working in my case - at least as far as this specific module is concerned - since I wouldn't have otherwise checked out Mobile Ed, since I'm studying a MABTS distance learning in Seminary.

What course would you be most excited to see next?

I wish they would pull all "under construction" courses off of pre-pub and give everyone a chance to bid on them. Current pre-pub orders would set the starting price, then we could see how low they could go.

If I was an optimist I would say they did it as an experiment to see if there was sufficient demand at the lower price, and now we'll see lots more CP MEd titles.
If I was a pessimist I would say they did it to suck more people into the MEd ecosystem so that we'd buy other full-priced titles.
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

It could be a mixture of both!
I guess that one problem for the company is to decide if significantly fewer people will buy it at full price after publication and pay the full price because a) some potential full price buyers bought early at the very reduced price and/or b) the product has been subconsciously devalued by being sold so check early on. At the end of the day we have a vested interest in their financial model working well - whatever it happens to be in the future. One thing is certain, I would never have bought it at the normal pre-pub discount, not because I do not think that it was worth it but just because I could not justify buying it. At the original CP price it was justifiable to me because I enjoy what Ben writes and when I have heard a recorded lecture I appreciated and learned from it (listening on my mp3 player while walking the high moors in my part of the world!!)
At the current price I would strongly consider other courses in CP in the future as long as the topic seemed relevant to me.0 -
If I were a realist I would assert That the pessimistic view is most likely.Mark Barnes said:mike said:how come Logos only put Ben Witherington's course on CP?
