Video Delay--am I really the only one having this problem?

For the last 4-5 weeks only, There is a SIGNIFICANT and excruciating delay when trying to play a video while on air. This only happens Sunday mornings. Any other day of the week on this same computer, playing a video on air starts immediately, as expected. Early Sunday morning, works fine, too. But for the last month, every time we try to start a video ther is a 10-15 second delay before he video will begin! That is the longest silence of my life! All eyes of the congregation turn around to see why I haven't started the video. Quite embarrassing the first time...pretty mortifying the tenth time.

if I disconnect the internet connection...works fine, which I find troubling. I had assumed four/five weeks ago it was due to the troubles you guys were having, which is supposedly fixed. However, this morning, 10:45 am central time, it happened AGAIN. Disconnected the internet connection, videos start as expected.

please advise.

You mention disconnecting the internet which is required by the remote so I'm going to assume the issues you are experiencing are all related to normal presentation navigation requests using the desktop application. This is surprising to me as all our web call should complete asynchronously, never blocking or delaying a slide navigation request. Are you running Windows or Mac?

Does this affect all videos or only certain ones in your presentation? Which presentation were you using when you most recently ran into this issue? I would like to take a look.

July 6th. Video titled In Christ Alone. Picture popped up immediately, but the video would not play. Had played fine on air Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning...10 second delay at least. Has been the case regularly for a few weeks in a row, beginning the weeks you guys were having the troubles. Had never happened before, I've noticed a delay when music should begin, as well, for pre-service and offering, etc. it's as if the computer on our end wants to talk to yours before beginning . The second week it happened, that's when I tried pulling the Ethernet cord, immediately solved the problem. This week, same result.

Thanks. This week was better. There was only about a one second delay...which maybe is normal, but I'm just skittish at this point. I hold my breath every time I hit the arrow for a video slide.

On another point (I guess) I was excited to see the feature that would allow us to set our own video thumbnail. So this week I loaded a new video (July 13, Lord, I need You), and I set a video thumbnail. However, when you choose that video slide in presentation, it briefly shows the thumbnail before it cuts back to the beginning to start playing, which makes it look like a mistake on my part. Is that by design? If so, I guess I'll have to leave the opening black screen as its thumbnail.

This happens with all videos and video backgrounds; I published a bug report for this awhile ago, so it is a known issue.

I tried reproducing with your presentation and could not do so; The video played fine for me, even when simulating slow internet speeds and delayed web calls (trying to simulate a busy Sunday). What I did was simulate slow internet speeds, go on-air, walk through the presentation until I reach the 'In Christ Alone' video, and the video starts (as well as the video audio) immediately. Is there anything missing in my process that you do?

Also, do you have any remote login software installed on your computer? Sometimes this software can mess with Proclaim and how it plays videos. If you do have any of this installed (logmein, gotomeeting, etc.), please uninstall this and see if it helps.

Another question. Assuming that you use a projector to present, does this same behavior happen when not connected to the projector and just running the presentation on your computer? Just to be safe, make sure all your video drivers are up to date (and your projector driver if this is what you are using).

Will check the drivers. As Ive said, only happens 10:45 sunday morning. I can't ever reproduce the problem any other time either.

Hello Shannon, we're really focusing on this issue this week and I have a couple additional questions.

Did it happen this week?

By music do you mean slides with still backgrounds? or do you mean actual audio tracks?

When there is a delay in updating to the current slide is the application otherwise responsive or is it completely frozen?

we have two specific issues. Videos, and music attached to either the pre-service loop and music attached to specific still slides. All show delay on Sunday mornings. I was planning to let you know it was better this week. Still a small delay, but only 1-2 seconds. I will let you know about this week.

Much better today! There is the slightest (less than one second, probably) delay. I only mention it because it really used to play instantly when we advance to the next slide (I tend to use the arrow keys to advance slides). However, today, the the music for pre-service and post-service started right away, there was no significant delay in the video slides...and, as an extra bonus, the music FADED to stop!!!! I love it. I don't know when I missed that change but I love it. Also noted that we used a video background and there was no delay or hang on it at any time.

I sincerely appreciate all the work you guys do to keep this going and to address our individual needs and concerns. May God continue to bless your work.
