Fonts on Proclaim

Currently we are not able to choose our own fonts that are installed on our computer we are only limited to what Proclaims has within the presentation software. For example when you open MS Office or Photoshop your able to choose the fonts that you have installed on your computer and with Proclaim we are not. Hopefully this makes sense to someone.

Because Proclaim works in the cloud, and allows people to create presentations on one computer and show them on another, it can't use local fonts.

If you used a font on a Mac at home, and then someone tried to present that presentation using a Windows machine on Sunday at church, the font wouldn't be available and it would render differently than you planned. And we can't copy the font from your machine to the others because of copyright issues.

For this reason we built appropriately licensed fonts into Proclaim, and restrict presentations to these fonts, which we know work (and are licensed for) your Mac, PC, the cloud, remote devices, etc.

    Sorry for the inconvenience!

But Bob, how does Adobe handle it with Photoshop and InDesign and other software? Surely they face the same issues. I believe your design decision limits creativity and, thus, is less useful than it could be.

Why aren't users able to use other FREE (or appropriately licensed) fonts that didn't make your cut?

Yep. And to the best of my knowledge, they simply display an error message and try to substitute with another existing font, which will make the text look very different.

Since I'm not a Proclaim user, I don't know how many and which fonts are available - if you're missing one for your creativity, why don't you ask for it directly (such as: "we like to invite to our children's program with a font looking less serious, like comic sans. How about adding ...... to the font list?")

    NB.Mick,

you misunderstood me. As far as Adobe programs, I was referring to the fact that they also allow multiple installations per user/ company, even on different platforms and also have to deal with font copyright issues. Adobe does not lock users into using their "pre-approved" fonts, and even allows fonts to be exported along with the document, when taken to the print shop. Granted,a copyright warning is displayed advising the user that they MAY be breaking copyright by EXPORTING fonts.

To me, there is no difference between "making the text look very different" because a user had 2 different fonts on different platforms, OR because Logos only allows the fonts that are different from what users creatively envision. No difference at all.

as far as I know, Proclaim's competitor ProPresenter (also working in multi-platform, multi-computer collaboration) does not have this limitation.

Having said this, Microsoft Office programs that run in the cloud also allow a limited, albeit large selection of fonts to chose from.

As a designer for Proclaim Media and a pro user of Adobe software I can say this:

Adobe products use fonts that are locally installed on the machine where the software is installed. I say that, but it's not entirely correct. They have come a long way with cloud font syncing with TypeKit. These fonts however are commercially free web fonts. Any purchased third-party fonts will have have to be installed on the local machine.

Proclaim does the same thing. We have a bunch of fonts that the design team have chosen type options based upon usability and aesthetical value. We are always on the look out for fonts that will look and work best. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know.

Will there be new fonts added to Proclaim in the near future? Also one of my suggestions would be the font "Novecento" http://typography.synthview.com/
