Another question: Are posts in groups on Faithlife confined to a set character count? Or am I doing something wrong? Let me explain.
I joined the Theology/Denomination Tags group to be able to download the collection documents. I was trying to respond to a comment posted. The comment was 4 paragraphs long, but anytime I type more than two short paragraphs the reply button fades out. If I delete the 3rd paragraph the reply button turns green again. So I'm wondering if posts are restricted to a set amount of characters. I don't do well on Twitter - I'm more of a blogger hahaha.
*I just went to the group you started and began a post, but I'm not having any problems with length of posts in your group - I haven't actually made a post yet, but was just testing to see if same issue occurred. It didn't. No matter how much I type the reply button stays green. Is post length defined in the set up of the group?*
Yes they are limited to 1,000 characters.

Yes. There is a limit because the news is intended to be somewhat ephemeral. You don't want to invest a ton of thought into something that will roll out of memory in a short time.

Rest assured, we have you covered! Faithlife Discussions, which are available in every Faithlife Group, are intended for the more in-depth examinations of a topic where longer posts are warranted. They are also searchable by topic so you can find a discussion from the past that interests you now. http://blog.faithlife.com/blog/2014/03/introducing-faithlife-discussions/

Part of the reason for the failure of "The City" was the costs associated with it.
I have no idea what our church paid for it. I do know that we had a total of about a dozen people ever post anything on it, out of about 500 to 600 members. There just wasn't any interest in the older demographic, and the younger one was already past Facebook, and it was just another FB to them. (Or even worse, a MySpace.)
I was mostly hoping that some competitor to FB would come along and force FB to listen to people. No such luck.
I certainly don't see FL going in that direction either, not that it was ever the intent for it to do so.

Our church looked into "The City" but it was quite expensive. We ended up going with Faithlife. What I like about FL is the ability to associate groups with other groups. Example, we have Bible studies that each have their own FL group but they are associated with our church's overall FL group to sort of tie it all together.

Good call. We dumped it after about two years and however much money went that way. I doubt we would look at something like FL now, since we had so little interest in TC. (We have a new Pastor since TC, and he is a Logos user...but he said he's never messed with FL.)

I have noticed in the last couple of weeks an influx of Faithlife employees becoming active on the site, so I am sure they are ramping up for a renewed push.

I've had plans to shoot a screencast that overviews FaithLife Groups that could easily be presented to churches. Anyone interested in this?

Sounds good. I'll try to work on this when I have a free moment.

Is this related to the training manual David mentioned today in Faithlife Groups 101?
I'm really encouraged and excited to see how you and others have been using Faithlife Groups. It sure helps to have the input of experienced users.0 -

Actually, I'm consulting with some churches (and maybe about to join a new church) where I'm trying to get their members more on board using FaithLife. I wanted to prepare a video that could be played for church members to know what FaithLife is, how to navigate around it and generally use it, etc. I may wait until one of the churches I consult with get their church group page up and use that as my training video template (I'll probably mention Community Study Bible and Prayer Partners on there as well). It would be a great overall video for FaithLife that would primarily show churches how to get started on it, although others could watch and benefit from it as well. I could definitely link it to David's group, as well as send the link to the FaithLife team to use it however they wish.
I'm also helping John Fallahee with LearnLogos.com with a FaithLife group for a Bible study webinar series he's been doing. It's been a great way to introduce others to FaithLife and get them to use it.
Bottom line: I see a lot of potential with FaithLife, and I'm happy to do my best to help people take better advantage of it. I see it as more than just another social network for "Christian Facebook". I see it as a powerful platform that ties a lot of the Logos Ecosystem together.

I just purchased LearningLogos.com software before Logos 6 was released. It has been so helpful. Some of the lessons are a bit above my study level atm - but I have been following along regardless and always have them to refer back to when I do reach that level. I would be very interested when a Faithlife group is started for the Bible Study webinar series. Is that a separate series from the learninglogos? I'm a little afraid to go look - I've spent so much on software this year lol
I am so excited about Faithlife groups. I really think if more churches understood the potential of this tool they would be using it more. I wish we would have had this years ago when I was active in church. I haven't connected with any churches in my area yet.
Is there a way to share podcasts in Faithlife groups? It could be a useful tool for sharing church sermons - bible lessons?
I don't have a church family. I haven't for a while. It's had me thinking about all the people who can't get to church due to illnesses, location, and many other reasons. I can see Faithlife groups being the Christian community for these people to come fellowship, learn, share, grow, and belong.

Visit LearnLogos.com. If you attend the webinars live, they're completely free to attend. If you want to purchase past webinars, they're generally extremely affordable (and John runs great sales from time to time). I think there's one more Bible study webinars to attend live. It'd be great to see you there.
If you search for Learn Logos on FaithLife, you'll find the group as well.
I don't think there's an easy way to podcast on FaithLife, but if you have a podcast feed of sermons, you can link to it from FaithLife.
