Frequent Remote for iPad crashes 10-12-14

I hadn't seen this before, but had read of other people's issues with this. Proclaim on my iPad Air (128gb, iOS 8.0.2, current) crashed at least 6 times yesterday during services. Fortunately I had my Logitech remote presenter with me so was able to advance the slides, but it was a little disorienting to have happen. Once, maybe ok... but multiple times like this, not so much.

Otherwise, I think Proclaim functioned ok for us on Sunday - and we had a lot going on - including a downloaded YouTube video that played well.

I think I read that you're working on a new version of the app - can you say when you hope to have it done? I'm reluctant to try a beta version - but is it relatively fully functional yet?

Did this happen when doing something specific (such as viewing a certain type of item) or did it happen randomly? Did it happen in a certain section of the Order of Service? Did this happen in a certain view (main view, sermon notes view, confidence view, etc)?

There is no ETA for the Remote at this moment but it is currently being worked on. The beta remote is functional, however only the phone version is available right now. This can be installed on your iPad; it will scale to the size of the screen and use the iPhone version. That being said, only the main view (showing slides) and confidence view (showing confidence screen output) are available at the moment. There is no Sermon notes view on the phone version.

Hi Spencer,

It happened randomly - I could see no pattern. Sometimes it would crash, I would re-start it, and it would immediately crash. Other times it would be running as I was talking about something and I would look down to change the slide and it would no longer be running. Our WiFi was behaving well yesterday (9-10m up and down), so it came back up quickly (5 sec or so, which seems a long time in front of a couple hundred people!).

Hi Lawrence,

We've identified an issue with a third-party library that results in sporadic crashes on iOS 8 like what you're seeing. We're waiting for an updated library to resolve the issue, but in the mean time, I would suggest using the beta if you don't rely heavily on the notes feature (the beta version doesn't rely on the affected library).
