What is the standard type information that one should put in a profile?

Also  I would like to try to find Logos users in my local area that would be interested in sharing how they use the software by meeting in groups at churches to discuss tips, resource ratings, etc.

Local Logos User's groups would be sweet...

Glad to know that I am not the only Logos person out there who thinks this.  Info on me (but I still don't have a clue what "should" go in a profile) father of 5, 44 years old, Full-Time Local Pastor in a rural United Methodist Church, love Logos, my wife, my kids, God, all churches lifting up the good news of Christ, and the Bible.  Not typed in any particular order by the way.  Oh, and in Kentucky.

    Hi Chuck,

I'm not sure I'm comfortable in adding profile info, since I'm not sure Logos has even the rudimentary privacy controls that the social networks do. All our google posts are indexed by Google, as are our profile pages. As far as I can tell, they're open to everyone.

    So...

    Hey Bill,

I do understand your concerns and I sure do not want to detailed info on mine to be used anyway to hurt my identity.  I signed up for Facebook and a few days later removed my membership for that reason.

I would settle for general locations. Being an citizen to the U.S.A, I find it astounding to discover that their are people who actually study their Bible in other countries ;)

Please before flaming me, understand that the above is humor.

    Hi Chuck,

I wholeheartedly agree and have duly updated my profile accordingly. It would be great to get to know other Logos users and, in particular, Logos users based locally (I live in Manchester, UK)...

Not sure if there are any out there... but you never know. (Having said that, I recommended L4 to a couple of my fellow Pastors who have taken the plunge, so I know there are at least three of us.)

    God bless,

    Andy

FYI: There is a Logos Users Group on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7476966260, but only if you "friend" various individual there (and they accept you) will you be able to see whatever location info they've put up on their profile.

I live in Vancouver, BC, and have noticed that there are a couple of other Logos users from the Lower Mainland. I don't think I'd get together with them in person to discuss how we use Logos, though. I'm more likely to do that online. I can make videos of what I'm doing on the screen using Camtasia, and post them on the web on Screencast.

I do want to demo Logos to some folks in my church, though.  There are several of us lay people who are involved in the regular preaching rotation there (we have no pastor) and there might be others who would want to use Logos. I've already been talking it up with one of them who is a former librarian, so the love of large collections of books might factor into a purchase decision there! But a demo is really the clincher.

Would there be something in your past that we may see on America's Most Wanted?

Nope. Just the opposite--squeaky clean. But I've had too many work assignments in the computing security arena & have seen what goes on too many times to be comfortable. Just because we think everyone's out to get us doesn't mean they aren't.  [:O] [;)]

You can enter some basic data here:

    https://www.logos.com/user/MyProfile

It's very possible to be generic enough to not help out the ID thieves, while being specific enough to let us know a few things about you.

Does anyone think my profile goes too far?

Town where you live + info about where you are (when you're on vacation / out of town and back from vacation) could make your place easy to find in your absence, to your detriment.

IMO, the bigger issue is whether google & other web crawlers can index your profile & include it without your permission...  Since I can click on your profile & see anything you've written there, I presume that so can google & web crawlers.

I did a google on myself--one in a long series over the years, just to see what others can see about me. An item on the 1st page was my logos profile.

Decide for yourself what you want anyone to be able to see. [:O]

It is very dangerous to list anything real in an online Forum profile.  Thieves and criminals using sophisticated software are everywhere on the Internet and can abuse that information.

In fact even posting real names here as ID's in a Forum is very dangerous.  That is why I use this anononymous ID for Forums and my real name is only listed on secure vendor sites where I purchase items.  One can purchase Logos 4 with a real name, address and credit card number and simply register a pseudonym for Forum use here.

I have warned all my grandkids to do the same.  NEVER reveal real personal information in any Forum or chat room.

I'm not worried. There isn't enough information to actually target me with ID theft, and they'd have to know a lot more than "Bellingham, WA" to be able to target me. I'm not even in the B'ham phone book, but thousands of other people are. I could care less what Google knows about me.

I have a very different attitude - one fostered by a 30 year career in IT at a major public university where most firewalls were incompatible with the mission of the University. Security is important - but one's identity can be stolen in a simple retail transaction or a search of trash or a stolen handbag/wallet. I refuse to let that criminal element control my life. I take reasonable precautions and let it go at that.

Same here. When you're a public individual (publishing articles, etc.) your name isn't something you can keep off the web anyway. I gave up worrying about that long ago.

I.T. Security is my field as well, I watch all of the fuss about online identity theft, but the same people will hand their credit to a waitress and let her disappear out of sight without a care in the world. The same with handing their car keys to a valet attendant. A recent study I was reading found that only 10% of identity theft happens from online information.

A good paper shredder next to your desk at home does far more to protect your identity, than refusing to identify yourself online. But everyone must do what they feel the safest with, I personally check my wife's garage and car before I leave for work every morning. It gives me peace of mind.

You can change your display name by going to Logos.com and signing into your account. Then go to the "My Account" link in the upper right corner. Go to the "Profile" tab and and change your "Display Name."

Already done... the only place it changed the display was on my initial login. Display in forum remains unchanged...

Have any of you been successful at changing your display name in the forums?

I think sometimes people have changed their display name in their profile page and forgotten to click "Save Changes" at the bottom of that page. Or maybe it simply takes a while for the Forum to discover the fact that you've got a new name. (Kind of like Logos 4 discovering you have new resources...) This forum software is notoriously finicky.

Just register a second account with a different email address (hotmail, yahoo, gmail) and use it only for Forums.  Use your real ID for purchases and the pseudonym for all the Forums and chat rooms.

It appears Jeremy deleted this post before I'd had a chance to finish my answer to it, but the answer still might be of value to other readers of this thread, so I'm going to answer it anyway.

How do you enter in the type of computer/software you have for your sig?

Click "Edit" beside your user name in the uper right. Then click Site Options button and you'll see a place at the bottom where you can enter a sig.
