Not happy with "Prioritise Resources" as Keylink Replacement
Is "Prioritise" the full extent of the replacement system for "Keylinking"? I really hope it will be expanded to include some of the L3 functionality e.g.
- the ability to set options for individual Data Types
- the ability to have mouseover popups e.g. on Greek NTs
Currently, some resources, like BDAG, are tagged only as "English" - so how is it to be bumped to the top of the list for Greek searches etc?
Thanks
Richard

While prioritizing resources, you can right-click on a resource in the prioritized list and set advanced options. This lets you restrict the use of that resource to a particular data type (and even to a particular range of values for that data type) or to lookups that originate from a specific resource.
With the first case, you could, for example, limit the ESV to "Bible" lookups for Genesis, falling through to the next Bible for every other verse. Or you could set the source on the Lust LXX Lexicon so that it was only used for looking up words in the LXX; Greek KeyLinks from other resources would go to the next Greek lexicon on the priority list.0 -

Ah....I missed that stuff. That makes it a little clearer. Seems like it might take a lot of setup, though.

Bob,
Are these sorts of settings synchronized? If I set all this up on one computer will it carry over to another?

Yes. Everything you store or customize should be synched.

My guess is the power comes when setting up a commentary set. I could pick my favorite commentaries and set them up to work in a chain. Right? Even mix and match different commentary sets or fill in the gaps for missing books?0 -

The problem is we don't know the default priority for particular data types, may not know what data types to be concerned about and are confused as to how many priorities are being catered for with a single manually created list e.g. I wouldn't suspect that a Greek lexicon not in the list would be the prime resource for Strong's Numbers and then have to insert Enhanced Strong's Lexicon in an appropriate position in the list so it would not become the prime Greek resource (unless I knew enough to fiddle with Advanced Options).
Perhaps the best thing to be done at this stage is NOT to hide the Advanced Options by default and provide better hints when hovering over each box.

To repeat what I wrote elsewhere, the latest three volumes of Hermeneia can't be prioritised as part of a series. To add to that: right clicking on the Mark commentaries in the Black's and Anchor Yale Bible series cannot be prioritised as part of a series either. Is there somewhere that information like this ought be sent?

Damian, Bob's solution above does not work?
Joe,
What solution? to which of my many problems? [:)]

Regarding your inability to prioritize the commentaries as a set. Bob suggested this above "Right-click on a resource that's part of a series and you can prioritize the series as a whole unit, not just as an individual volume. Then you can stack commentary series, which should let you left/right-arrow through them as parallel resources."
Doe this work for you?0 -
The problem seems to be that certain series are not recognised as series (namely Black's New Testament and Anchor Yale Bible). Plus, the latest three Hermeneia volumes are not recgnised as part of the series.
The second part of his solution work when the series are there.
I've now realised that I have to prioritise many of my resources - many more than I thought that I would have to.

To be added to the list of those which cannot be prioritised as a series: FOTL; Witherngton's Socio-rhetorical commentaries; Cornerstone; Formations; Lenski; Eerdman's Critical commentaries

I really think we need to have access to data type info, and be able to prioritze keylinks and PRAs according to individual needs. There is too much flexibility lost. It can just be an advanced option hidden somewhere so it doesn't confuse the novice, if that's the major concern.

I don't see the advanced option. Where is that?
Longtime Logos user (more than $30,000 in purchases) - now a second class user because I won't pay them more every month or year.

OK - I see it now - you mean the book title in the right column, not the title in the library.

I agree completely - organising resources by Data Type was much more intuitive - this way, I have no idea how to keep track of what is linked to what, and how to view quickly the options for a given Data Type.
For example, is there any way to set the top N Greek resources as in L3? I know which Lexica I want to appear and in which order - with a single "prioritize" list, can items be ordered in priority, or are they just prioritized?

Right Philip, first prioritze, then right click the title of the book on the right side of the pane...
then we get 3 Advanced options for linking
I sitll don't know exactly how this works, but this is where some of the folks who are pros at 3.0 can tell us if it satisfies their need for "linking" data types. I will keep reading with interest.
I also wonder how much of this will get done for us in the Logos book building and how much we will get "pushed" through the internet cloud by other users? Will there be the ability to dowload datasets adn collections for the Logos website?

Bob,
I can't work out how to set up the source as LXX - it appears that you can only set up the resource as a particular edition of the LXX (eg. LXX with logos morphology).. as below. If I then have a version of the LXX open different to the source resource it will not default to Lust's Lexicon when "keylinking." (what is keylinking called in Logos 4.0???)

You can only choose one source resource at a time at this point. I believe you could add the Lust lexicon to the priority list twice, and set different sources on the two entries.

THIS IS CRITICAL! We really need to be able prioritize resouces by datatype, PLUS, we need to be able to right click on a word, and have the top 8 or so prioritized resouces on the right-click menu for that particular data type. This was a very powerful feature of v3 that needs to be retained in v4.

Yes, that is right. Sorry I was not more precise.... typing too fast while trying not to be late for an early appt.
Lol, Joe, now that is dedication!

When prioritizing commentaries, most commentaries could be set in priority order as a group. However, the Lenski commentary set could not be prioritized as a group. Perhaps this could be changed for Beta 2.

Wayne, I noted this and many other commentary series which are not recognised as a series on the previous page. I assume that it has been noted by a Logos Staffer.

Agreed an alternate view is required to review settings by datatype. One long list is not good at all for keeping track of settings and troubleshooting when a link is not behaving the way you expected it to do so.

This can be done in 4.0.....
