Performance Issue: Highlighting

Since I've done much highlighting of my NASB 1995, Study Bible, and some books/commentaries, my performance has begun to be slow when adding each new highlight. Would it help performance to somehow group my highlights (e.g., by book or even by chapter)? Why would this help? How would I do this for future highlights? How would I do this for past highlights?
