L7 had the option where I could choose. Not able to see that in L8.
This is currently not available and will be added in a future release from what we have been told.

We're working on it right now. We expect it to ship in 8.1.

You guys play too much with poison pills. I'm on the fence with Diamond Orthodox. Versus 8.1.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. What Alan is saying is that we already know about the limitation on the homepage and they are already working on a fix that will be pushed with the next Logos 8 update 8.1. 8.1 is not another upgrade scenario, it will be part of L8.

Thanks, David. My point is D/O is the only package interesting. 8.1 is the next choice. 7.18 works fine.

I can't believe the homepage has not got the function To customise and turn off items which I do not want to see
would like to able to have the option to turn stuff off the main page as we did in previous version
advertisements are annoying .There is too much information on the page
All I wanted on this page is content from the library. An options to add any of the other stuff
I'm not knocking this version I just thought that such a simple thing would have been added. Knowing how most of us like to customise Our home page

Why bring a new version out with this option, missing? Everyone's gonna want to customised this page to suit one's needs

I'm not knocking this version is just I would have expected to have the same flexibility as in the previous version when it comes to customisation

They are bringing it back it just wasn't ready to go for launch.

I think this is coming in a future version, but didn't make it into 8.0.

Hi Alan.
When will 8.1 ship? I am seeing forums where 'is a known issue' and version 8.1 are mentioned ... for what I consider to be fundamental things ... such a simple uncluttered UI, no freemium advertising, and a basic unbroken workflow.
It would be really nice to know if, by waiting for the version with the 'fixes', will we loose out on any current discounts (not that I can work out off there are any discounts at the moment ... it all seems a little over-hyped and deliberately muddied ... the use of facebook, the broken videos, twitter, that 'live' Youtube debacle, these forums etc. etc. ... and not forgetting the constant exhortation to call a sales rep ... phone in the 21st century!).
Sorry if this sounds frustrated ... but too many Logos hype jobs have resulted in poorer software, higher prices, and the few fixies of L4 issues e.g. prioritisation or the cited by tool ... the hopes of fixes dash by the breaking of working features. Things will settle, hopefully with 8.01 (not 8.1). When you have so much invested into a platform, and then see the videos and misinformation and confusion, things get personal. I am actually feeling vaguely sick over the loss of the direction from what I have seen so far ... and am unwilling to pop for L8 to be a test bed.

Beta is planned to ship out next week, then they typically work on a 6 week release cycle.
I disagree with you assessment of the software. L8 is a lot of fun and practical to use. Not really sure what you mean by misinformation?

It is at best "unfortunate" that Logos forgot to let you switch adds off.
At best it shows a complete lack of appreciation for what has been a very widely held concern and at worst something that verges on sharp practice.

Or it could have just been an oversight on an extensive overhaul. Grace guys, remember to give grace.

I personally think the FL team have done a great job with this update and release. And on things like this (control over home page content) they know what users want and are planning updates soon.

Interesting in that this is the version that, despite some problems, finally includes everything I was very noisy about starting in L3 - notes, workflows, lectionaries, graphics. I'm pleased although I have a few items that I want fixed ASAP.

Hi Alan.
When will 8.1 ship?
Logos desktop currently operates on a 6-week dev cycle. We release updates every week to our Beta channel and then target shipping the next "point" release to the stable channel (i.e. 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, etc) every 6-weeks.
Thus, 8.1 is expected ~6 weeks from now.

Misinformation relates to the various channels of information, none of which ties together in a single location. There are some videos on 'Faithlife' somewhere ... but no link that |I can see from Logos ... the links where provided within this community.
There were advanced notices ... in Fakebook, but not on the site or hear. There are posts from FL employees here that do not direct you to product pages or videos, but to other forum posts, which in turn link you to other places.
There is uncertainty ... in my mind ... and that is the POV that I am taking. I noticed that buried deep in the lists of resources there were words the the effect of a free course of your choice ... not sure if that is working ... but again, the information of less than clear.
Did you watch the 'live' Youtube thing ... somebody else said timeshare selling ... I concur ... it is not what I would expect of a large professional corporation ... unless they are not was large, and the app is not so improved ... and my investment is not so secure ... and the program is not so free as it was when I was first sold on it. 'Notes are no longer core ... and working notes require you to be an additional tool etc. etc.
I am wanting to say the 'best thing since sliced bread' but the impression I am given is Logos Marketing department strikes again ... excess hype leading to excess expectations ... etc. etc. This is not the first time ... or even the second, or third ...
To be honest, when I posted I was, and still am frustrated, ... but my question still stands ... when will 8.1 be released? What discounts are being offered at the moment, and when will they evaporate. All reasonable questions that should have a reasonable time-frame estimate. It is not as if they were publishing a commentary set!2017 15" MBP, iPad Pro

They didn't "forget" to let you switch ads off. Nowadays developing software is done iteratively. You don't build everything all at once. With regard to the Home Page, you obviously have to build the modules first. Customisation has to come next. Ideally, I agree that it would have been better if that customisation was available at 8.0, but I'm confident it will come soon. I don't believe it's necessary (or helpful) to question motives just because a feature isn't finished yet.

Well, we'll see what's available in 6 weeks. May well work out to a free engine.

If that's the POV you've chosen to take, I'd gently suggest you log off and come back in a week's time when things have settled down. Faithlife are doing their best with this massive change to their website, videos, base packages, etc. They won't (can't) get everything perfectly correct in one day. But this has been by far the smoothest transition I've seen in the last ten years. I've read every post on the L8 forum, and I've seen no mention of any "misinformation" (the occasional missing information certainly, but that's not the same thing). There's a huge amount to say. Some people want to know everything. Others just want a quick summary. Some people want videos, others want text. It's impossible to please everyone, but that's what Faithlife have to try to do.

It is working. I've already started watching mine.

This is day one. You don't need to purchase now. None of us do. If you're not happy, then wait. You'll get plenty of notice of the initial offering being withdrawn (whenever that happens), and you'll have plenty of time to make your decisions. 8.1 will be along in six weeks or so.

I agree it is time for me to zip it[:#] and I apologise to all who have been offended by my expressing a point of view.
I do not agree with your summary Mark ... Logos have had time. They could have more time ...nobody said that they had to release the software in this state, with known issues, and this form of PR. You and I both know that they have a history in this ... I know that I should have known better and expected less etc. but then Logos should have known better as well.
Time will tell. Maybe L4 will be fixed here ... the context menus will become manageable, the prioritisation will be easier, the tagging and organisation of tags will work etc. etc. Ultimately you are correct, all I can do is wait and see ...

I agree that Faithlife have history, and customers (including me) have been rightly unimpressed with some of the excessive marketing and hype there have been in the past. But I genuinely believe this is not one of those occasions. I genuinely think L8 has had by far the smoothest launch with the least errors and problems of any Logos version in the last 15 years.
It's also true to say that they could have taken more time and added the features you feel are lacking before launching (for example) in December. But if they had have done, you would have been no better off (you'd have to wait until later anyway), and thousands of others (including me) who are delighted with L8 would have been worse off because we would have to have waited too. And even if Faithlife had have waited to add the features you wish were present, there would still be people wanting still other features. You can't wait until you have a perfect product (or even perfect marketing) before launch. If you do, you'll never launch. (Just like I can't wait until I have a perfect sermon before I preach it. I have to do the best I can in the time available, with this skills I have.)

Well, luckily I already have Samaritan, Vulgate Analytical, and NETS in the side pockets (CC/PP). So, an engine may be the answer.
But I'll admit the Orthodox Diamond is nicely packaged; it'd be my first in 13 years. I already have Aramaic Bible in hard copy, so the Fathers was the attraction.

I dont really want to perpetuate bad motives. However, over the past decade, the 10 years I have dealt with Logos, I have seen many things that would question integrity.
At the same time, where integrity has come up, I have seen Bob intervene, and actually change policy and offer apologies where necessary.
The masses are a pain in the butt. We're on the outside looking in. We know more than everyone who is actually doing the work, despite the fact we have absolutely no clue how to do anything.
For starters, there are laws to be followed. Governmental interference, God's law, the law of computing, and laws of rationality. Because we do not know the real motives behind things, it is very easy to judge harshly. I admit, I have been there and done that. What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. And when working with the Bible, it's just that simple. Except, it's not, because we are also dealing with people. Sinful people. Godly people. People who have their hearts right and want to do the best possible job. People who are here just to make money off silly gullible Christians. Then, add to that, the masses who come bearing irrationality and stupidity. The masses who have great ideas, but no knowledge of how to incorporate things. And somehow, here we all are, being given the ability to offer our input, good, bad, or otherwise.
So, while it is easy for us outsiders to offer up blame, there is reason we do. And, while it seems so obvious that there is evil intentions lurking behind closed doors up there, reality is, it just may be a series of unfortunate coincidences and events that convict innocent people who are doing their very best to bring us the best possible product, for the best reasonable prices.
And that is how I have seen Logos over the past 3 years. I've seen the things that make me cringe. I see the reactions, whether from backlash or realization that decisions were not the best, but regardless have been corrected.Mark Barnes said:Mike Pettit said:It is at best "unfortunate" that Logos forgot to let you switch adds off.
