Books in base packages, while they are still under community pricing?

How is it possible that Patrologiae Cursus Completus: Series Graeca is (partially) offered in several base packages, while it is still under community pricing?

It is not unusual for Faithlife to produce some or all of essential works that are stuck in pre-pub or community pricing and release them in base packages. Historic English Bibles got released that way in L7.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

How does the pricing work in this case if I have books on pre-pub and community pricing and then purchased them with a base package? Will my pre-pub be canceled automatically? And which way is the cheaper way to get the resource? As part of the base package or the pre-pub / community pricing?

Maybe Logos can help me out here.

Your order doesn't automatically get cancelled, but when it is time for the pre-pub to ship, the system will recognize that you already own the resource, and you will not be billed for it.

And which way is the cheaper way to get the resource? As part of the base package or the pre-pub / community pricing?

Pre-pub discounts usually are 40% off or less. Base package discounts work out to be about 90% off an item's regular price.

It will not be cancelled, but FL will check to see if you own it before they try to ship it to you, so you don't have to do anything.

The discounting on the base packages is so good that it is definitely the way to get your pre-pubs.

This raises an interesting question. Let's assume the resource "The Works of George Whitefield Upgrade Collection (8 vols.)".

    • I placed a community bid and got the resource locked in at $30.
    • Currently, the pre-pub price is $94.99.
    • The regular price will be: $118.99
    • It is not sure what the cost through the base package is.

    So what did I pay?

Base package discounts are about 90% off, so that resource's cost might have been about $11.90.

You paid the price of the base package, but you got many other resources which I assume are also useful to you.

In general, you're paying a small fraction of the total value of all the base package items if sold separately.

For example, you get 20 new resources for $20, instead of paying $200. That makes each resource cost about $1, instead of $10. If you needed all 20 resources, that's a really great price per resource. But if you only needed one resource, you effectively paid $20 for it (instead of $10 if bought separately).

It's up to you to determine how many valuable items are in a base package, then seeing if their total value exceeds the cost of the base package. As long as that is true, you come out ahead.
