Notes not going into notebook

With the old app I had notes go into a resource specific document. In this new app I can't figure out how to specify that. When I make a highlight I have to manually go into notes and add each to their specific notebook!  Am I doing something wrong? This is tedious to say the least

I should note that all my resource specific highlight documents went into their own notebooks when I upgraded so I'd think all my new highlights should do the same? If I don't put them into notebooks is that a problem?

Mattillo, have you tried the new note facet filtering capability? From there, you can filter notes/highlights by resource, no need to categorize notes in notebooks.

To filter your notes, open "All Notes" and click on the funnel icon to the right of the search box.

I can't figure out how to do this on my iPhone.  When I hit the funnel all it brings up is my notes in categories.  What I want is for a highlight to go automatically into a notebook... am I thinking this wrong?

    Maybe those photos will help

    1st Photo: new highlight

2nd photo: showing highlight not in notebook

3rd photo: me manually adding the highlight to a notebook

How can I go from step 1 to 3 w/o the manual adding? The old app allowed me to put highlights automatically in specific files.  I want my highlights to go into resource specific notebooks like they already are

The old app allowed me to put highlights automatically in specific files

This was controlled by an app-level setting regarding highlight destination.

This seems to have disappeared in the updated app so I don't know how to replicate that functionality.

    Hey Mattillo,

Phil Gons wrote an article recently on how to make use of Notebooks in the new system-- Take a look and let me know if you have more questions: https://faithlife.com/posts/1567200 There's some good conversation on that post that you might find helpful.

We know new Notes is a big deal, and we're all ears with your feedback and are also happy to help however we can.

Hi Daniel - I don't think that post refers to specifics of the mobile app which I think Mattillo is asking about here.

Apologies if I am wrong and I missed it

Thank you Daniel. Unfortunately this doesn't answer my original post. How can I set my highlights to go automatically into a resource specific notebook?

Mattillo, this isn't currently possible with the new notes tool. I don't think this is possible on the desktop, either (at least, I haven't found a way to do it)?

If you are just trying to accomplish organizing notes by resource (i.e. the way you could configure the old notes system on mobile), I think filtering does this automatically for you? See attached screenshot from a filter of "All Notes", where you see them grouped by resource.

Thank you Todd.  I guess I'm just a little confused on this.  All my old resource-specific highlights got transferred into their own notebooks when I upgraded to L8 so I'm just trying to keep things consistent.  Now when I make highlights they are anchored to the resource but they don't go into the notebook so a year from now I'll have resources with highlights that are half in and half out of notebooks.  Just seems odd to me.  I'd like to propose that you consider adding this feature in the future.

I totally agree with Mattillo on this one. When we are adding a note to selected text, you give us the ability to Set Notebook manually for each note. What we need is:

    (1) The ability to set a default Notebook to which notes are added (so we don't have to manually choose it for each note), and

    (2) The ability to set a default Notebook to which highlights are added. Currently there is no way to Set Notebook for highlights at the time the highlight is added. What is required is to open the Notes Tool, then select each highlight one at a time and manually Set Notebook. Current behavior of the Notes Tool doesn't even allow selecting multiple highlights (or notes) and doing a bulk Set Notebook. This would be better than the existing one at a time requirement, but the ability to set a default would be the best, IMHO.

    Hi Paul

Mattillo's request was around resource-specific notebooks and I just want to check you are aware of some of the functionality in the new Notes Tool. I t doesn't address his concerns but might help with yours. Apologies if this is not the case

    (1) The ability to set a default Notebook to which notes are added (so we don't have to manually choose it for each note),

If you select a Notebook in the Notes Tool, notes will be placed in that notebook.

    (2) The ability to set a default Notebook to which highlights are added. Currently there is no way to Set Notebook for highlights at the time the highlight is added.

We can do this from the Highlights palette menu - in a similar way to how it was done in Logos 7

What is missing here is the resource-specific notebook option which goes back to Mattillo's point.

Current behavior of the Notes Tool doesn't even allow selecting multiple highlights (or notes) and doing a bulk Set Notebook

    We can do this.

Select multiple notes - select one and then select another while holding the Shift key (or choose different options using the Ctrl key) and then click the notebook dropdown and select the notebook you want the notes / highlights to be in.

EDIT: Apologies - I've just realised my comments related to the desktop app whereas we are discussing mobile apps here!

I am having problems with copying and pasting notes from a book into the note for some reason.

I am also not able to use the drag and drop feature any help would be appreciated.

Probably best to start a new thread - are you having this issue on mobile or desktop?

I am also not able to use the drag and drop feature any help would be appreciated.

I don't believe this is supported.

    Hi Graham,

Unfortunately, you are thinking desktop. Mattillo and I are thinking mobile app. (This is the Logos 8 Mobile App forum.)

By the way I tried to copy and paste into a Microsoft word document and it allowed me to.

I tried to then copy it from the word document into the Logos note system it would not work.

Sorry - I had edited my reply to recognise that, apologies for any confusion.
