Question on searching

This may be an obvious question but I am not sure of the answer....if I do a Basic search of

<bible=jn 3:16> I get about 6000 hits in 4900 articles in my entire library

if I search on John 3:16 I get 8000 hits in 6300 articles.

Is the difference just <bible=...> seems to also catch footnotes and citations, while the other does not? Or are there other differences in what is captured?

A quick comparison seems to indicate that John 3:16 catches references and references ranges that contain it while <bible=????> only finds instances of that specific reference. This might not account for all the differences... but it looks like it should account for most of them. This does, however, make me wonder if this is by design or a bug, either way it's good to note the difference.

Thus intersection is the default operator in a Reference search. Passage Guide works on the same principle when looking for articles in commentaries eg finding an article (not just a reference) on Josh 2:1-24 or Josh 2:1-8 when your passage is Josh 2:7.
