Anyone else on a go slow?
OK my machine had no problem running 7, but 8 seems to run like molasses in winter (loads of not responding), and pauses while it thinks seems to run better on my older laptop than my 18 month old PC, are we looking at any code optimisation in the future?

Yes it has for me. But I have been having lots of re-indexing, and so assumed that was it, and it would be fine once it stops wanting to rebuild the index just about every time I load.

Most people's experience has been that L8 is noticeably quicker than L7. Perhaps a reboot is in order?

Dominic, most of us have found L8 to run faster than L7. It could be computer spec related as each iteration of the software seems to need a bit more horsepower or RAM.
I imagine FL folks will want to analyze your Logos log file. You might close and reopen Logos to start a new log file, then try to use it for some time, then zip up the Logos log file and attach it to a follow up post.

I have to agree. I have grown increasingly weary of the constant indexing and the impact it has on computer speed (particularly where it takes hours sometimes). I keep hoping Logos will overcome this with each new release, but have been sorely disappointed for years. Logos 8 is, yet again, a disappointment in this regard.

Same here.

Once the reindexing stopped speed has not been a problem for me.

Not following you DominicM. Who is this for and what specifically is this doing?

Dominic are you still indexing? I have experienced quite a bit of indexing but I expect that as I have added a lot this week. But, I will say L8 is snappier than L7 and I am using the same laptop I have been using since L4. So it is no spring chicken, and yes I have loads of memory and I have optimized it quite a bit. But totally happy with how snappy L8 is.

There's some general slowness there, but Visual Filters are the most obvious issue. You have several visual filters that return thousands of results, which is inevitably going to slow things down.
The visual filters that are specially slow:
- "Do Not" WITHIN ({Speaker <Person God>} OR {Speaker <Person Jesus>})
- modem (especially an issue in Word Biblical Commentary, Volume 21)
- Several one-word filters for the REB, such as 'and', 'or', 'for', 'in', 'to' and so on
As for the general slowness, what's the spec of this machine: disk type, RAM, CPU? Is anything else going on (virus scan, backup)?

I see that Logos is installed in E:\Logos 6\. What kind of drive is this? Internal/External? SATA/USB? 5400rpm, 7200rpm, SSD?

You appear to have at least one Collection rule that includes the following:
title:(a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i,j,k,l,m,n,o,p,q,r,s,t,u,v,w,x,y,z,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0)
I remember this being discovered on the forums many years ago as a way to select all resources when rules involving "*" were slow. * is no longer slow as a library collection rule, so you will get better performance by updating any old Collection rules to use * (and deleting any collections you no longer need).

its not been the collection's, though will try it out, but appears to be my l7 morph visual filters, deleting all my visual filters has improved start load time by 75%, I will need to add them back at some point but thought you and others would like to know2388.Logos.zip

Collections are cached on startup. They're also re-cached every time your library changes (e.g. after new downloads, tagging resources, metadata updates). If you have slow collections that aren't necessary, they're worth deleting or optimising.
E is a Partition on secondary harddriveIf that's a slow drive, that may explain what I called "general slowness".

MUCH faster for me. On a 16gig RAM Surface Book 2. So I had enough power to handle Logos 7, but Logos 8 is much much much smoother, quicker, less jittery. Can't express how much more I enjoy this version than 7

Thanks Mark, and Bradley, am down to 12 seconds launch to Layout open and active on my laptop, notes still take about 5 more secs to populate, but deleting some of my collections made a huge difference to performance - thank you for your help
