Home Page Issue - Margins far to wide

Margins are far too wide and a lot of wasted white space on the page as a result.

Please make more use of the available screen space.

Doc, I'm sure you've already tried this, but does selecting "Auto" on the gear menu make any difference? I only ask because that fills up my screen nicely.

Good suggestion - that does make quite a difference

Doc - please be aware that there is currently a bug where the Auto setting is not maintained across shutting / restarting Logos.

I wouldn't expect that to make a difference here. From the screenshot, it looks to me like there isn't enough available space to fit another card in each row.

I have noticed that the card size is determind by the content scaling and the program scaling.

Altering the content scaling will not immediately change the size, but reopening the software or adjusting program scaling will redeterming the card size.

So if you change the content scaling to smaller, then change the program scaling to something smaller, and then change back the program scaling to your normal scale, you should be able to alter the card size. You can then change your content scaling back to whatever you have it at normally.

Bit of faff but taskbar shortcuts will help until maybe something else can be resolved.

Thanks all for your responses so far.  Auto was making no difference.  SeeHisFace is correct changing content scaling did reduce the card size on a restart. I thought the card size was ridiculously oversized and was the next home page issue I was about to report as I  did not link it to content scaling to size of cards on home page - the fact that it is makes use of content scaling restrictive and so a new issue.

The outcome was though only resulted in even larger margins as the software now deems 4 cards is optimal:

If I manually set to 5 cards, they fit quite easily but I am still back to the issue of the margins being far too wide until the home page is fixed I would have to change to 5 cards each time I restarted the software:

My monitors are not particularly large  2 x LG 2343T (23 inch). This is now the third PC I have used them with up until now have never had an issue with a software program resulting in output like this on the screens up until now.

So at this stage, though everyone efforts to assist are appreciated I am still at the same point with the same issue of the margins being far to wide with a lot of wasted screen space.

Which specific solution are you hoping for, doc?

    • For the current number of cards to be wider, to use up the full width?
    • For the current number of cards to be narrower enough to fit one additional card which uses up the full width?
    • For the current number of cards to remain the same, but the inter-card spacing to increase, so the cards use the full width?
    • Some other approach?

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

The default is 4, but when I set it to auto on my 27" iMac it goes to 7 cards across. That is good. The bad part is that it never remembers my preferences when i restart. It goes back to the 4 instead of auto. I sent a bug report about it.

We're working on that feature, Tony. We hope to have it in the app soon.

    Petah,

For the current number of cards to be wider, to use up the full width?

No the cards were too big to start with, making them wider would only add to making visually an eye sore.

For the current number of cards to be narrower enough to fit one additional card which uses up the full width?

In theory that sounds fine but would it impact other users ? Would that create a problem for those who need large cards, or result in them ending up with problems with margins that look out of whack like mine currently do?

For the current number of cards to remain the same, but the inter-card spacing to increase, so the cards use the full width?

Too large a space between cards would still be an eyesore and as in my above comment possibly cause issue for other users with the display of cards on their home page.

    Some other approach?

I tried different content scalings and the only thing a this point that works is setting content scaling at 80%, this allows 7 cards to display across the width of the screen, with margins that start to look acceptable.

The issue with this solution is it affects the content scaling for the whole program and everything else become less than optimally sized and to fix that I have to go into every panel I open and manually adjust up the content scaling.

The alternate solution is to allow the user to decouple the content scaling on the home page from the system wide setting like they can with all other panels in the software.  This means if the system wide setting works for them and produces and acceptable output on the home page all is good, but if the home page is not generating an acceptable output, like it is in my system setup at the moment, the user could then tinker specifically with the home page 'panel' settings to get it right without impacting upon the rest of the software.

I like this idea. I will pass it on.
