Feature Removal: A Request

It’s pretty unusual for me to want an app to lose a feature, but this one is an exception. I would love for my downloaded books on iOS not to be synced anywhere - it’s so easy to download books individually and the syncing system causes me endless confusion/problems.

I like to download a book that I’ll be reading regularly, and remove the download once I’ve finished. I regularly find that the app either redownloads these books or fails to do so causing error messages, or pushing ahead of an item that I desperately want so that the item I most want is put to the back of the queue. On my mac it says almost 500 books are on my iPhone because it’s not syncing my choice to remove them properly. Realistically the number for me should be closer to 100.

Alternatively, if there was a way to see the download queue, the syncing error would matter a lot less to me and let you keep the advantages that it offers. Right now - for me at least - it causes more problems than it solves.

I've not experienced this (I tend to initiate mobile downloads from my mobile device, not from desktop).

But I think that deleting the device from your Logos account may wipe the download queue. Then in the future, just initiative downloads from your iPhone. (Deleting the device from your account has no side effects. Next time you open the mobile app, it will get re-added.)

This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

I only initiate downloads from my iPhone and I did delete all my devices from my Logos account a couple of days ago (I only have one iPhone, but the list had multiple entries - presumably because of a phone upgrade and swapping between betas/live versions over time). It's not helped - it's restarting downloads of books that I completed and deleted in 2016.

I should say, this isn't a new issue - it's been going on for years now across a range of devices.

I feel a bit awkward for not reporting it sooner now - I'd somehow convinced myself that this was a well-known issue, but apparently not.

Given our differing experiences, I thought I'd try something - I deleted the app from my phone, and removed all books from my devices in my Mac app, then deleted the devices from my account. I then reinstalled the app and started downloading the main resources that I wanted.

Sure enough, it's already added 2 additional resources to my "local:" list that I've not chosen to download: UBS5 and OT Pseudopigrapha vol 1.

    James,

I am not sure that I fully understand your problem but I did wonder if this menu might have some effect on those resources that are automatically downloading.

From the (not very well maintained) Logos Help file...

    Download to

This section will list all mobile applications (Logos, Faithlife Ebooks, Noet, etc.) associated with the Faithlife / Logos account, with a checkbox under each one. Checking this box will flag the resource to be downloaded to the specified application.

At the bottom of this section is a link to the Faithlife / Logos profile to Manage mobile devices and add, remove, or modify mobile device settings.

Yes, those tickboxes are what I had in mind when I said "removed all books from my devices in my Mac app" (after I'd deleted the iOS app and before I deleted all devices on my Faithlife account).

It didn't stop unrequested downloads, though, as I said.
