Unwelcome change to how reading plans work
I have taken a great deal of time to set up specific layouts for each book of the Bible, including setting up the top rated commentaries for each book.
This worked very well with the reading plans, so as I advanced through various books, I would set up my default to the specific book I was reading through.
But with Logos 8, this has now changed. The reading plan opens up to a Logos predetermined layout.
Is there any way I can change this?
Thanks!

Hi Rod
A number of us have made our case against this to the Faithlife team!
In the meantime, you can open your preferred layout, go into the layouts menu, fight click Reading Plan Layout under Homepage Layouts and select update to current selection.
(This is all from memory, so some details might be sketchy!)
Your preferred reading plan should then launch when you click on your reading plan tile on the dashboard.

Thanks! This solves my problem, although I will have to change the layout for the reading plan every time I move to a new book. But I did that for my default layout in any event so it is a reasonable workaround.
Thanks again!!

Some of the new features seem to be aimed at people that were basic users. The problem with this approach is that it seems to mess up some things more advanced users had set up. The new reading plan feature overrode the set up that I had that was working well.

The problem with this workaround is that when you click on the bible reading card, it no longer opens the Bible with the "Start reading" heading. As a result, when you finish reading the chapter, there is no way to update that you have read the chapter.

Try checking you have the Reading Plans Visual Filter enabled for the Bible you are reading

Yes, I can see that. I love the new Homepage, but I miss certain features of the L7 Homepage, particularly the flexibility snd usability reading plans. I hope that a future release will bring back some of that.

Hi Graham, thanks for this tip on how to make Reading Plans visible in the Bible text!
I noticed that the option only becomes visible after creating one or more reading plans featuring the Bible.

That is correct.

Some improvements to the Home page have already been planned and may even ship with 8.1.

When you say 'Reading Plan Layout' under Homepage, are you referring to the 'Bible Reading Plan' or should I see one that Reading Plan?

I meant 'Bible Reading Plan'! I wasn't at my laptop at the time so I couldn't remember the exact wording.

Ok thanks. Got it. Just making sure I wasn’t missing something Because these methods aren’t working for me in customizing my reading plan layouts.

Do you mean you're having difficulty getting your custom reading plan layout to launch from the Homepage, or something else?

I'm reading the Strengthening Your Faith devo by Tony Dungy. When I click on the reading plan card on my homepage, it opens without my Bible. I want to add my ESV to the layout. I've tried the various suggestions offered in the forums but I can't seem to get the ESV to be part of the layout. I can open the Reading Plan card and then open my ESV separately but I'd like to save it as part of the layout.

Set it all up exactly as you want it first, THEN go into the layouts menu, scroll down to the Home Page Layouts section, click on the arrow next to 'Bible Reading Plan' and select 'replace with current layout.
This should mean that clicking on your reading plan card from the Home Page opens up to your custom layout.
Or have you already tried this and it's not working?!

Richard - thank you for your help. So I followed those steps. On my dashboard I clicked the plus sign to add a 'reading plan' card to my dashboard. In the list of reading plans, the Strengthening Your Faith plan I set up was at the top of the list. I selected it. It is now on my dashboard, however it is not the layout that I set up. It is the "stock" layout from Logos.

Forgot to mention this...when I click on the card from my Homepage, it pulls up the 'stock' layout - as I mentioned - but when I'm on my homepage and I click the layout icon then scroll down and click on the 'Bible Reading Plan - custom,' it brings me to my reading plan layout with my ESV as I set it up.

It does not. For whatever reason my reading plan will not pull up my ESV Bible. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing?
