I also love Logos 8!

I have a question about layouts: "What is the difference in Logos 8 between an active layout and a nonactive layout?"

I understood that while the layout is active, changes would automatically update the saved layout. In Logos 8 it is not so.

An active layout is simply one that is open on your desktop.

The layouts panel is divided between left and right.

The right hand side is the 'Snapshots' section which will save the desktop arrangement at various times eg exiting the program, closing all tabs etc. Using this side you can revert to a previous layout or choose to save the layout by naming it in which case it will move to the left hand columns.

The left hand column are fixed layouts which maintain their state unless you physically and deliberately update them. To keep my reading plan layout regularly updated I keep a UAL (update active layout) tool on my shortcut bar.

As I understand it, an active layout is the layout that you currently have open. This is from Logos Help: "Active layout — a layout remains "open" after it is loaded, and becomes the active layout and adds its name to the window title bar."

I understood that while the layout is active, changes would automatically update the saved layout. In Logos 8 it is not so.

I don't think layouts have ever saved automatically as you make changes. From the layouts menu you can "save as named layout" to create a custom layout. You can also "update active" to make changes to a saved layout.
