Make It Easier to Filter Library Using Collections

Sequentially named collections were my primary way filtering library in Logos 7. It was also very easy to find and use collections on Logos 7.

Now the collections are way down in the left pane in the Library Tool. Also they are not sorted. Finding the right one is a pain. Collections do not list in search.

Please can collections be shown on top, and be a sorted list by name. Make them list in search. Preferably, restore the Logos 7 functionality as-is.

You can use the search function of the facet filter to easily identify those collections. For example, I have one of those for commentaries on Romans, named "66 Romans". Typing 66 into the facet filter will bring it up and allow me further filtering/sorting etc.

    Does that help?

Thanks for this. One has to remember though what the collection name begins with for this to work. It does not work on middle sub-strings of collection names. in Logos 7, it was more like a scroll down list from which one could choose.

Faithlife! Please make the facet search work on middle sub-strings!

If you remember the first part any part of the collection name you can type that into the Filter Search box. I can't see needing to look in the middle of a word for a text string, myself. Having said that, I'd like the default sort to be alphabetical.

I definitely agree that it would be helpful for collections to be (able to be) sorted alphabetically.

I have a large number of collections.

Their names start with a number to get them listed in the order I want in the earlier versions of the app, and also in the collections tool in Logos 8.

I do not use a space in names. A habit I preserve from the olden days when early versions of windows used to cause problem in file names with space, or even modern apps replace that with other characters in URLs etc. To avoid thinking when I can and cannot, I avoid space in names.

The facet search can pick a word only if it is separated by a space. And as I mentioned before does not sort collection names alphabetically leaving me to painfully sift through a random list, which is worse compared to logos 7.

What criteria does it use now? Chronological?

Currently it sorts by the highest to lowest number of resources.

Is alphabetical ordering in the works? Size of collection is unlikely to be anyone's choice of how to list them.

So I played around with this a bit, trying to unlearn Logos 7 and relearn for Logos 8.  IF the collection names are named after some common metadata of the resources they carry (which happen to be mostly true for me), typing that keyword in the top search box will filter and sort collections by the number of matching resources. I see this as a great feature not to be thrown away. All I have to do is instead of looking for to pick the collection name as in Logos 7, type the key word in the search box now on.

    Hi,

Just to add my name to the request.

I would prefer the Collections to be listed alphabetically. I would also love the "tags" to be listed alphabetically. At the moment tags are either random or some order which I cannot ascertain.

  • I second this! It makes most sense to sort things alphabetically or at least have that option.

Also when searching for resources to purchase on Logos.com we can search by denomination. Why can't searches be done by denomination in our libraries? So if I want to access only my Baptist resources or only my Anglican resources and search within them?

Sorting by size of collection does tell me which of my collection best matches my keyword. A thing not possible in Logos7. Alphabetical listing in my view should not deprecate this feature.

And I seem to remember that in Logos 7 there was the option to have a preferred collection filter which would be used every time you opened up the library. For example I made one 'Full Library: No Ancient Texts' to filter out the 1,200 Perseus Digital Library books. This no longer works.
