Guides: Slow entering passage or topic

I have experienced significant slowdown in Logos 7 and now 8. It is almost to the point of not being usable. I suspect my solution is getting a new computer since I am using a late 2012 iMac. I will say Logos reveals the limitations of my computer more than any other application.

One primary issue I am having is when I enter a word of bible passage in the input box for any guide or other purpose that requires whatever is typed to be looked up. I'm not sure I can paint a good enough picture so I'm attaching a screenshot of an example of what I see for at least a minute every time.

There is the chance I just need to do a clean install and clean out somethings as I've been updating every version since Libronix on top of the previous.

What should I do? Is anything I can do before I can purchase a new computer to make Logos usable for me?

Hi Andy

You don't mention which OS is running on your machine. I understand that late 2012 machines can support MacOS 10.14.1 and I recommend that you get this installed if you have not already done so.

There is no point in installing the program - each time we download the program it simply places a new version on the machine and deletes the old on. There is nothing incremental about it.

You might try rebuilding the index over night - it might make a difference and doesn't cost anything.

Sorry ... I forgot to give more specs. It's a iMac running 10.14. It has 8GB ram and about 400GB of unused Hard Drive.

I actually did rebuild the index 2 days ago with no improvement.

Logos was mostly been unusable with 7 as well. I just used the limited version on my iPad but Logos 8 is drawing me back to the desktop.

It's a iMac running 10.14.

There are some problems with MacOS running 10.14.0 so you should update to 10.14.1 as soon as you can.

Although theoretically 8GB is enough ram to run Logos I would recommend doubling that. Is their scope to do that to your iMac. It can be quite inexpensive is you purchase from third party suppliers.

I installed an SSD in my 2012 iMac - not to hard if you are dextrous and confident - I bet there are YouTube videos that will walk you through it. The machine is still running well but has been converted to Windows 10 and in my wife's office.

On the other hand if you want an excuse to by a new computer...

I wonder, Mike, if this would apply to my Logos use. ~3200 items. I am not in any way a power user. I will set up ~ 5 collections. I will do minimal searches. Likely next year I will buy a new Microsoft machine.

The old adage of buy the fastest machine you can afford usually holds true even today. In some respects the way of achieving the speed has changed.

I still think that having a good deal of RAM pays dividends and I know that an SSD makes a good deal of difference.

Unfortunately the late 2012 iMacs take a lot of taking apart to replace the RAM and this computer is my church’s. Unless I hear of some miraculous tip, I’ll assume Logos is virtually unusable on my Mac. Hopefully we can buy a new one in 2019.
