Highlighting and Notesbooks
I have tried search the forum for similar topics but really haven't found what I am looking for. I am trying to understand how highlighting and notebooks are related.
I have created a new, custom highlighting palette with several different styles under it. My understanding with Logos 7 is that if I highlight a given text, verse, etc with a highlighting style the a note document is automatically created with the name of that palette.
Example: I create a new palette called "Memory Verses" with several different highlighting styles. When I first use any style in this palette a new note document called "Memory Verses" would be created. Then, every time I use a highlighting style under that palette, that highlight would automatically be added to the "Memory Verses" note document.
I am basing this off of https://wiki.logos.com/Highlighting#Note_files_and_Highlighting and I am pretty sure this is what happened when I created palettes in Logos 7.
However, now, in Logos 8, it appears that a default note document (now called notebook) is not created when I create a custom palette or even use a different palette style that has never been used before. Does Logos 8 work differently? Do I need to create a notebook first? Thanks for the help.

The wiki article is not updated for Logos 8, and Highlighting now works with the new Notes tool.
When you click the arrow icon in the heading of your Palette, you will see options for a Notebook as the destination, which includes "No Notebook" and the names of your Note documents imported from Logos 7. Choose one as the default, and you will find them in the Notes tool sidebar, which you can filter for Highlights (and many more attributes).

Ok. So, when I create a new palette that I want to associate with a notebook just for that palette I need to create the new notebook manually. Then I just manually connect it with that palette through the palette options, correct?

Yes, or you can connect it to an existing Notebook.
I was unsure about this new fangled way of collecting highlights, until I realised the power of the new filtering system.
What's great is that you can have one Notebook for all your highlights from a particular palette (e.g. I've just set one up for Reading Highlights), and then you have numerous options for filtering those highlights.
You can easily find all the highlights created using that palette by opening the associated Notebook in the Notes tool ...
OR you can see all the highlights for a particular resources in the Notes tool by filtering the highlights and the resource...
OR you can easily filter all the highlights (from whatever palette) in the sidebar of a particular resource...

Richard, does the name of the highlight style matter much? Can you search/filter resources or notes by highlight style? We have 5 people in my family and I want to keep highlighted memory verses organized for each person. Would it be best to just create 5 new palettes and 5 new notebooks in stead of one notebook with 5 highlighting styles? How "deep" does the visual filters tool go for notes within a resource (i.e. does it stop at palette or does it go down to highlight style as well)?

I'm not sure what you mean, but you can name a highlight style whatever you like!

I'm not aware that you can do that. You can filter by Notebook (i.e. the Notebook you have assigned to a particular palette) but not a specific style within a highlighting palette.

I suspect this might be the cleanest option, and make it easier to filter and search (at least I think I'd go with that option!).

Again, I think it's only Notebooks that you can select to display as a visual filter, not palettes or styles.

I asked the question about the name of the highlight style being important because I didn't know if it was used for anything else other than just to have a name. Since, at least it appears, you can't do any searches, etc with it, then the naming really isn't that critical.

Hi Richard,
I am working through Camp Logos 8 and just discovered the resource sidebar highlighting feature, where I can see all of my highlighted notes at once in a particular book. I have thousands of highlights throughout my library, but only the Table of Contents appears on each resource sidebar I click. Thus, I do not have the Notes icon on my resource sidebar.
Of course I can see these highlights in my Notes tool, but I would like to have this additional sidebar feature. Any ideas?
