Archaeology & The Old Testament - Hoerth

I'd like to suggest that this be made available on
LOGOS: " Archaeology & The Old
Testament" by Alfred J. Hoerth, Baker Books, 1998 ISBN
0-8010-1129-9
It's a great reference for Old
Testament Bible studies! Excellent, detailed, time lines.

I agree, they are both great. I have used the Old Testament
one more often though. Here's an example of information that I have found useful to
supplement a lesson:After reading chapter 7 & 8, the end of Genesis and
the beginning of Exodus make much more sense. There is archaeological and extra
biblical information presented that
explain why the treatment of Joseph by pharaoh was so different from the way Israel was
treated by pharaoh at the time before the exodus.
Also, the identification of the pharaoh of the exodus (Amenhotep II) is
supported by the information that he was succeeded by a younger son (Thutmose
IV) NOT the older son. Only the Bible explains what happened to the older son!0 -
