Highlighting

I am a prolific highlighter. In L7 I would go into  settings and tell Logos which note file the highlight belonged to. It does not work as easily in L8! Each time I highlight I must tell Logos which notebook the highlight belongs in. I am sure I am doing something wrong and may very well need to think differently. Can anyone shed any light on this?

There isn’t a notebook setting for highlights in the L8 mobile app.

With highlights being filterable by resource there is less need for this.

How did you use / how do you want to use resource-specific notebooks?

If I ever had a need/desire to "share" highlights with someone else (i.e. small group), I would want to share only the highlights from the particular resource. Is that possible in the current system?

At the moment sharing is available at the notebook level - it might be available at the note level in the future.

So that is certainly one reason to use Notebooks - others are outlined at https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018492791-Using-Notebooks-to-Organize-your-Notes

Sadly I am far from being impressed with highlighting in the mobile app. Very very slow to apply a highlight, great difficulty in selecting text in order to highlight. It is a productivity show stopper! Sorry for the negative report.

Currently, notes need to be in a notebook in order to share, though Phil has mentioned that sharing of individual notes is an interest. In the current system it would be quite simple to filter to the resource of interest then bulk select all the results and assign your "small group notebook" to all of them.

    That wouldn’t be convenient

If you know ahead of time that you want to share the notes of a specific resource, then the best (current) approach IMO would be to create a Notebook and have the notes tool filtered to that notebook (!!via the notebooks tab!!) whenever you're reading/notating that resource. This will automatically assign notes from the context menu and highlights (provided the palette is set to "Most recent Notebook") to that notebook without ever touching the Notes Tool.

Of course *once* we have sharing on the note level, this use of a Notebook would will be redundant.🤞🏽

I would like to suggest if possible that you just bring back the feature for highlights to go automatically into a resource specific document. It seems I'll not the only one who would appreciate this but if I'm in the minority then I'll deal. Having this option keeps my highlights consistent and organized.

    Thanks

I don’t see how sharing notes on an individual level would be helpful. In the old system, all highlights could automatically be placed into the right document and shared ONCE. Additions would automatically be pushed. The system you suggest is a major step back.

And you can do exactly that right now. I don't foresee the note level sharing to preclude sharing on the notebook level, just an additional option where it makes sense! Besides, I've not seen any descriptions on what note-level sharing might look like. What if we could define a filter set to share (this would be dynamic)? Perhaps I'd like to filter to DataType:X, NoteType:Y, and Tag:Z and then share the results to a group! Who knows whether anything like this will happen, but I think it would be pretty sweet! Think about it, the same note could be part of different sets of notes that get shared with different groups! 🤤

Yes, you can do it now. What you CAN’T do is simply send all of your highlights to that document folder. That is the problem.
