Please Help! Logos Taking 56 GIGS of space
Here's my log files (you all always ask for those!)
So I went out of town and when I came back to my computer, it said I was OUT OF SPACE. I checked and it said that Logos is taking 56 gigs of space on my computer in my appdata file. Do I need that there? Please help!
I'm on a PC, running Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit.
I have Logos 8, Platinum Package.
I have a blank window that says, "Unable to download resources due to low disk space. Please check that you have at least 1 gig of free disk space, then restart to continue.

Hmmm... if you have downloaded a lot of videos (e.g., watched a lot of MobileEd courses), that could explain this. If you have downloaded media as part of any media resource, you can delete that media by opening the resource and clicking on the triple dots in the top right, followed by selecting "Delete downloaded media".

Do I have to do that every single video in the course or is there a way to delete it for the entire course?

And now it's crashed twice as I'm trying to see if there's actually videos on here from the courses.

Last thing.
For the courses...
If I click on the main 3 dots to a course, it only offers "Download all media" but if I click on an individual video, it offers "download all media" or "delete all media." Anyway, I need to know if I actually do have them loaded or not and I need a faster way to get them off if I do since I don't have all that space available on my main hard drive (I do on my solid state external drive. Maybe I should run it from there, but if so, someone needs to tell me how to do that.)

If you want to remove ALL downloaded video content, you can do it most easily (?!?!) by deleting the directory:
C:\Users\System Administrator\AppData\Local\Logos\Data\yh4b1ajk.ic1\WebCache\

Hello Randy:
I did that and it's still showing Logos' appdata taking up 45 gigs. Is that normal?

It's very dependent on the size of your library - on my system its taking up just under 100GB.
Faithlife are looking at giving us the ability to control which of our resources actually get downloaded but that doesn't help you at the moment!
Previously you referred to having more space on a solid state drive

What do you mean by "external"? What sort of disk is it?
Depending on exactly what sort of drive it is and how it is connected that could be a really good option.
One way to do this (unsupported by Faithlife) is outlined at https://wiki.logos.com/Install_in_different_folder_or_drive#Move_to_a_different_drive
The supported mechanism is outlined at https://wiki.logos.com/Install_in_different_folder_or_drive#Custom_Installation - but it does involve a complete reinstallation.
But the key question before doing any of this is identifying what sort of external drive you have.

Good Morning Graham:
It's an Oyen Digital Shadow Mini One Terabyte SSD that I use for all my music and pictures and documents. I do not have any programs on it.

Technically - from the specs - it looks like it should perform well
However I don't think it is officially supported by Faithlife as they specify an internal drive - not an external one.
So I would wait to get confirmation from them before moving forward.
Do you have the option to move anything else onto this external drive?

Cynthia, how big is your internal drive? I am guessing it's pretty small since you already store pictures and music and documents on an external drive. And what PC are you running? Is it possible to upgrade that drive?
There are ways to hack away at the space and make Logos run, but the best way is to have a single drive that has plenty of space for Logos.

My internal drive is 256 SSD
My husband works in electronics on mega yachts so he had it built for me from a company that builds them for the yachts. It came to me completely clean.
So the answer is...yeah, I could ask my husband to have them add space, but I was hoping to not have to.:)

I'm going to take a look and see. I'm not very tech savvy so I hate to move around things I'm not familiar with, but anything that I know for sure, I'll move over.

I checked and it said that Logos is taking 56 gigs of space on my computer in my appdata file.
By way of comparison, my Logos4 folder on macOS uses 120 GB. Couple Logos commands for reducing size:
- Delete Unlicensed Resources
- Rebuild Bible Index
For indexing, enough free space is needed for duplication of Library Index plus several GB for temporary index files.
FYI: my MacBook Air (MBA) has a Library Index that is ~3 GB larger than my 27" iMac so choosing to rebuild library index (while maximizing free disk space)
- Delete Unlicensed Resources (in Logos)
- Wait for Idle message in Logos.log file
- Quit Logos
- Move Library Index to Trash (manual alternative to Rebuild Library Index command)
- Empty Trash
- Close other applications (so macOS Log in launches Finder & Indexer)
- Turn on laptop cooler (indexing heats up MBA)
- Log out of macOS
- Log in (to start Logos Indexing)
- Wait for Indexing to complete (before using MBA)
- Open Logos

I have L8 on my desktop- 74.5 gigs, but I installed Verbum on an external 4T drive- works fine- just a little sluggish at start up. I have in past installed L4,5,6and 7 the same way with no issues.

Larger capacity hard drive (~80 MB R/W) would be noticeably slower than Solid State Disk (SSD).
NewEgg has a 480 GB SSD for $54.99 => https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313866 with a bit faster 512 GB SSD for $ 64.99 => https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820301381

I followed the steps and am re-indexing now. I'll let you know what happens.

It appears to be done indexing already. I gained 1.36 Gigs of space by doing that.
So, I moved some other stuff around, did some disk cleaning, so to speak, and have things running okay for now. When things slow down at my husband's business, I'll ask him to upgrade my internal space.

I think you have your primary issue cleared up, but for clarification:
You don't just have "Logos 8, Platinum Package." You are a long time user and I know you have more than that! I have, for example, packages from L4, L5, L6, L7 (multiple) and L8 (multiple). [I believe FL started the "traditions" libraries with L7]
If a brand new user purchased "Logos 8, Platinum Package" they would not have all the resources that you have. You have more.

Rebuilding Library Index on 27" iMac took 2 hours 20 minutes with size increase to 21.42 GB, which now matches MBA. Appears beta testing missed index integration of some library resources.

JT,
just curious, I am a long time logos user, most likely 4 forward. If I buy a brand new computer and install 8, are you indicating I may not have some of my old resources purchased years ago?. Another words I would have to reinstall all previous versions. I had just assumed all resources I owned would always be added once I upload current version.

That is not the case. If you can use those resources now, they will be available when you download to the new computer. You can, however, backup your resource folder and use Method 3 to install onto your new computer.

No, I am implying the opposite! For context, here is the post you are replying to:

My post was to clarify to Cynthia that she does not JUST have the resources from L8... She has the resources from all other purchases she has made over the years. I don't know which ones those are in her case, but she is a long time user and has made previous purchases before. Hence her "56 GB" would not be representative of a first time purchaser of "L8 Platinum"
