Working space set up: 7 vs 8
I have to admit that I upgraded without thinking:-( Need to work on a sermon and spend time trying to figure out how to use the new Logos instead:-) Maybe you will be able to help me, guys.
In the 7 that I was using so far, I used to have the following split of the screen:
Left side: all resources related to my search (commentaries, dictionaries, etc, etc)
Middle: Bible in english and original language
Right: reference to the dictionary if I click on a specific word
It was a great workflow for me. I start with the word by word analysis, click on a word and them go to lemma and study the word. As I click on a word, it will also open up a dictionary with the reference and meaning. How to do it in Logos 8?

Did you save a layout of that in v7? If so click on the layouts button (top third from the right). You may have to scroll down to find it. You may can find it if you did not save it also.

Go back to the layout icon and click where it says "save as named layout" and type a name.
It will then be available when you click on the layout icon on the left side with saved layouts.
Also, you may want to go to tools/program settings and set L8 to open other than to the homepage.
Lastly, go to your library and type "quickstart and you should see QuickStart Videos for Logos 8. Open those and go through them as they will be helpful.

Hello, David. I am still struggling with the layout. Can I ask for your help?

SO it took me a lot of time to build the layout I want and the one I had on Logos 7. Now that I have it saved, I would love to be always use it as the default one. But it is not the case. Each time I type something into the search box, like Philippians 2:1-4 it will not open all resources in the layout I want, but in a totally different one. So how can I make the one I create a default one?
I want to have the following working flow:
1. Start Logos
2. Type passage into the search box (e.g. Romans 1:2-8) and click GO
3. My preferred layout is used to open all resources accordingly to what I search (Romans 1:2-8)

Im not sure about this let me research it.

Click "Tools" Scroll Down to Utilities Click it. Click on Program settings. The top item in this menu will allow you to select your named layout. I am not sure this will do what you want but it is a step toward it.

The behavior of the Go box has changed, as discussed in your other thread.
The passage layout no longer opens by default (but changes are coming in 8.1).
You presently have to specifically select "Open passage to Romans 1:2-8." This will open your default (or customized) passage layout.
As for customizing your passage layout, you have to replace the default Passage Study QuickStart layout with your new one. You can do this by loading your preferred layout, then clicking the down arrow next to the Passage Study QuickStart layout, and choosing "Replace with Current Layout."
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

That would change the default layout (so it always opens when Logos starts). That's different from choosing what opens (e.g., bible, layout, guide) when you enter something in the Go box.

THANK YOU for the help!
I did it and it does not work:-(((
So here is what I did:
1. Created the layout I want (check) --> Left column (Passage study Guide + Word Study Guide + Exegetical Guide)
2. Replaced the default view with this one (see the screen shot):
3. When I start Logos and do the search from the Search Box:
4. it will open a very different view (different bibles, different Information tab, etc)
So no clue what can I do to make it work:-(

Instead of updating the "Quickstart Layout", update the "Home Page Layout" instead

One more questions:-)
Now that I have this layout and it is working for me, I will keep updating it and customising it so that it will be more suited to what I do, how can I make the following change:
In the Commentary section on the left, I have a ton of different commentaries. What I would want is this 5 to be always listed as the first 5:
1. MacArthur New testament
2. Tyndale
3. Reformed commentaries
4. New American
5. Pillar
How do I do it?

Prioritise these as your top five commentaries - see https://wiki.logos.com/Prioritizing for details (return for Logos 7 but the same principles apply in Logos 8)
To open the Prioritize pane in Logos 8, click the panel icon and select "Prioritize Resources"

Maybe I am doing something wrong. See, I am in the library and want to prioritize Pillar Commentaries as an example. It doesn't give me a set that I can prioritieze, but individuals books. Same for every other commentary set. Is it possible just to select these 5 sets I mentioned?

By default if you drag a volume from a series to the Prioritize pane, the entire series is prioritised. This is indicated by bold font as in the MacArthur series shown in your screenshot.
So if you just drag one of the Pillar series, the entire series will be prioritised and this should give you what you want (assuming I understand what you are trying to do!)

Glad you have it working
Aleksander Dylikowski said:Now, a more general question. I want to really know Logos well to be able to get the maximum from it. How do I learn about all its functionality. What are the best training materials available and how do you suggest I approach it?
There are lots of different views on best training - some is provided by Logos, some provided by third parties; some is free, some is paid for.
For materials provided freely by Logos see:
They should give you something to go at!
And the wiki provides a lot of useful information as does the helpfile
