Laptop Memory for L4

I'm looking at a new Laptop. I'm leaning toward A since I have had positive experiences with ATI on several towers.

Which would handle L4 better?

A.) ATI Radeon® HD 4200 Graphics with up to 1919MB of HyperMemory™ supporting Shader Model 4.0 and Microsoft® DirectX® 10 with AMD M880G Chipset.

B.)Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD with up to 1759MB of Intel® Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0, supporting Microsoft® DirectX® 10 and Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset.

C.)Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD with 128MB of dedicated system memory supporting Microsoft® and Mobile Intel® HM55 Express Chipset.

Assesment from L4 guru's would be very much appreciated.

Chipset wise, you'd be better off with the Radeon than both of the Intel chips. FWIW I think C is just plain out of the running.

make sure your machine comes with plenty of ram as the gpu may steal some!

ideally you need a dedicated card with at least 512mb. these are both shared memory cards

No matter what, ensure you get the fastest processor and at least 8GB RAM, minimum.

Also, if you can afford it, get an SSD.

Thanks Thomas and everyone.

Here is what I run now. It performs well enough but I would like a little bit more meat with my potatoes.

[:(] I'm on a very limited budget so dedicated cards and extra memory are not an option on my future laptop so I'm going to go with an off-the-shelf chipset solution. I would spend more but I want to pay-off my L4 balance this month. So I have set a limit on Laptop $$$.

What is the difference between (performance wise) "Intel® Dynamic Video Memory" and ATI HyperMemory™ ?

Here are the full specs. on "A" which is the one I think I'm going to go with.

AMD Turion™ II Dual-Core Processor M500 (2.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache) supporting AMD HyperTransport™ 3.0 Technology;
4096MB Dual-Channel DDR2 667MHz sDRAM;
500GB SATA hard drive;
ATI Radeon® HD 4200 Graphics with up to 1919MB of HyperMemory™ supporting Shader Model 4.0 and Microsoft® DirectX® 10 with AMD M880G Chipset.

Does anyone see issue (I know it's not the best solution)?

Is anyone running a similar laptop configuration with L4?

4 GB DDR-3 RAM
Intel 4500M (integrated graphics, the same chipset of your example
7200 RPM HD

I am very pleased with its performance. It handles Logos capably.

I have carefully watched what was said concerning laptops and what it takes to run Logos 4, and I have seen some really high specs mentioned, but I also noticed others would some times mention computers running the program well that did not come near to the specs given.

So I bought a lower spec laptop that I could afford

ASUS UL30A-X5 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Black Laptop - 12 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)

with the following specs:

1.3GHz Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo Processor
4GB of DDR3 RAM, 2 slots, 4GB Max
500GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
13.3" HD LED LCD Display, Intel GMA 4500MHD, Wi-Fi 802.11 bgn, 0.3M Webcam
Windows 7 Home Premium Operating System (64 bit)

This little thing gets around 12 hours on a battery charge and is very thin and light, and best of all it runs the logos 4 program very nicely, and in fact it is quicker on many things than the more powerful computers listed have been. Now I admit I do not have a super big library, but I do have about 2200-2300 resources and it handles it with ease.

I have no delay in my typing either like some do and much less of a delay in most of the things that have times given. I have also seen that computers with even less specs than mine have also turned in good results, so I really don't know what it going on, and I don't think any one knows for sure what specs are need to run logos 4 quickly, but I will tell you this, those expensive systems should smoke my system, but they don't. I will also tell you that I have not even done all the things that have been listed as helping Logos 4 run faster, because it is more than fast enough already.

I got it on sale for 629.00 and got a free DVD player-recorder too!

I really love the freedom of not worrying about my battery running down to low. I spend hours and hours teaching others how to use all kinds of bible study software, and now I don't have to worry about if the place I am going to will have a handy plug in or not.

Well, I have been using my new laptop for about a month. I was unable to get the exact model I wanted because of stock issues at my local retailer.

I ended up with a comparable model (in comparision to my original post).

Gateway NV53
AMD Athlon™ II X2
Windows® 7
4GB DDR2 memory
500GB hard drive
ATI Radeon® HD 4200 graphics with 1919MB

There is in fact MUCH BETTER preformance over my old laptop with the "nearly twice" the graphics chip and double the memory.

I have to say though, that if you had the money I would suggest you go with a dedicated video card and even more memory. I think in the long run it would prove to be a better investment if you knew you would be unable to repurchase a laptop within say three or four years.

There are alot of reasons behind that statement that have more to do with laptop use and the way technology will likely change (& improve) over the next few years, not to mention the intended development path of Logos 4(5?).

Again, thanks to everyone for their input it certainly helped!

P.S. I've been eyeballing the iPad and the upcoming iPad alternatives. [:P]
