OT: Pontius Pilate's Seal Ring Reportedly Found
A seal ring bearing the name of Pilate has been discovered at the Herodion. It was discovered some time ago but only recently cleaned, inspected and recognized for what it is.

If authentic, as it appears to be, this is only the second instance of non-Biblical evidence for the existence of Pilate. The first was the discovery in 1961 in Caesarea Maritima of a stone block inscribed with his name.

Fixed that for you. Philo and Josephus both talk about Pilate and neither is part of the Bible. Still a cool discovery.

Oops, good catch Thaddeus! Yes, it appears that the ring is only the second instance of archaeological evidence for the existence of Pilate. Thanks! [:D] [Y]

I seem recall another piece of "hard evidence" other than the Caesarea Maritima inscription, but WOW THE RING!
As archeological methods improve, I am hopeful that we will see more conclusive evidence of fundamental characters and time-lines in the Bible.
