Typing in the Go box hangs up

When I am attempting to open a passage guide to a new scripture passage, I obviously start by typing the reference in the Go box.  Usually, that will cause Logos to create a drop-down list below the Go box, with suggested passages in it.  Lately, though, I just see the "progress bar" endlessly scrolling back and forth, and the passage guide never gets created.  Has anyone else seen this?  Is there any way to fix it?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Since the Go Box and Command Box have merged, some of the behavior has changed. Opening just a Passage Guide is currently not available, IIRC. You should, however be seeing the option to open a Layout to your reference... Are you seeing this? Which build are you running?

This is what I see when I type in a reference...

MacOS 14.10.1 and both Logos 8.0 SR-2 and the latest Beta.

Is this what you expect to see and are not seeing?

Perhaps a screen shot of your page might help?

Sorry I didn't do a better job of describing the issue.  All of your screen shots show the drop-down list of choices that you get.  My issue occurs before that drop-down is populated.  I'm not sure what it's called, but a little box shows up which acts like the old hourglass in Windows--it shows that the system is "thinking", but no results show up.  If I stop it and try again, eventually I'll get the drop-down list of suggestions, but it can take a while.

Lately I've had some issues with functionality being really slow and laggy.  Not sure what's going on.  I was just wondering if anyone else had seen behavior like mine.

    Thanks!

Tell us about your system - OS, memory, SSD/HDD etc.

I'm getting the results you describe right now because the system is indexing ... there is also a blue circle with a 1 in it on the task bar. I'm not sure why it felt it was necessary to rebuild and index. Could you be indexing?

    Dave,

It's a 2 year-old laptop with a 7th gen AMD FX chip, 8 GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive, running Windows 10.  I work in IT for a living, so I'm well-versed in Windows, but the lagginess I've seen lately in Logos is a bit perplexing.  I usually try to hunt down and disable any process that has decided it needs to be running all the time, but that hasn't helped.  I haven't seen this issue on older versions of Logos, so I was wondering if perhaps it could be due to recent updates.

I do wonder if it may just be that my system doesn't have enough RAM, especially since there are so many automatic Windows processes that want to run, like Windows Compatibility Telemetry.  Maybe Logos has trouble running with the remaining RAM.  Sometimes it straightens up and runs pretty well, but it seems like it ought to be better than that.

    Thanks!

Replacing hard drive with Solid State Disk would noticeably improve performance of Windows 10 and all applications.

Geekbench => https://browser.geekbench.com/processor-benchmarks shows a single core benchmark of 1921 for an AMD FX-7600P @ 2.7 GHz (Intel has CPU models that are over 300 % faster)

For RAM, may want to use Performance Monitor to watch Memory, Pages Output/sec (low or zero means 8 GB is enough)

    Bob,

I experience the same delay you describe. The delay is most noticeable when using the passage guide in Logos 8 - when I enter a reference it may take 45 seconds or longer before results begin to populate the screen. I strongly suspect the culprit is the HDD on my two year old laptop. Eighteen months ago I upgraded my desktop to a SSD and the delays went away. In order to enjoy using Logos on my laptop, I'll install an SSD later this month. (MJ makes a helpful observation about indexing - I had not previously noticed whether the lag is worse while indexing.)

You're right--that's exactly what's happening to me as well.  Unfortunately, my laptop is not upgradeable, unless I can figure out a way around that.  While I appreciate the suggestions that Logos returns, I wish there were some way to turn those off entirely.  Any benefit gained from the suggestions is more than offset by having to wait almost a minute just to be able to get the passage guide started.

Regarding indexing, I don't try to do anything while Logos is indexing, and that includes anything else on my computer, not just Logos.  Indexing is such a hog that I've learned to just wait until it's done.  I can do some light browsing while indexing, but not much more.

    Thanks Earl!

+1 [Y] for Program Setting to enable/disable Automatic suggestions as desired (along with turning off running search when tab is duplicated since have duplicated search to make a modification that does not need results populated). Have experienced automatic suggestions being annoying during tab navigation plus have had suggestion appear many seconds after search completed so suggestion pop-up blocked part of search results.
