Problems with Collections

Hey all,

Just updated to Logos 8 - getting used to it. Went to add a collection and it won't allow me to drag and drop resources into plus or minus columns - any advise?

Thanks

    Where are you dragging from?

    Mark,

I was just trying to drag it from within the collections box itself. I established a rule, books showed up in the resources box below and I wanted to drag one or two into the minus these resources column and it wasn't working. I thought perhaps someone else had the same trouble.

    Thanks

You need to drag resources from the Library panel

So, do I have to create a new rule for a book to be erased from the resource collection? Or do I look up that book in the library and then drag it to minus these resources - that seems clunky to me - why when I have a list of resources would I have to open a different panel to minus resources that are already listed below

Also, having watched Morris Proctor - he has a video that shows the ability to drag the resulting collection to the plus and minus boxes from the Collection Panel.

I just tried it again, and it is like it begins to drag but blips out shortly after - strange.

Apologies - that is correct, I wasn't aware you could do that.

So, yes, you should be able to drag resources from the "Resulting Collection" pane to either the plus or minus areas.

Can you expand on that please? It is working for me

The problem seems to exist with some resources with long titles.
Short titles seem to drag and drop without any such problem.

This is beginning to be a significant issue given the number of recent titles which are getting very lengthy with the addition of secondary titles after a colon.  I expect Logos is needing to extend the title lengths to these days to minimize confusion between similar titles, especially those involving translations of ancient works by different translators.

    I still can't reproduce a problem using:

"1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther: Zondervan Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary (Old Testament), Volume 3"

I'm on a MacBook Pro running High Sierra and using the trackpad with 3 finger drag. Also, I'm on Logos 8.1 b4, so I guess it's possible that it's a bug that's been fixed (though I haven't seen it mentioned in the release notes). If hardware/software/resource details were listed whenever this was experienced, maybe we could see a pattern(?).

Try this one: (just as an example re the drag and drop problem)
Make a collection of "Black's New Testament Commentary BNTC" using the Start with resources matching series:"Black's New Testament Commentary"

First drag the Epistle to the Ephesians from the Resulting Collection to + Plus these resources (should be no problem)
Now try and drag and drop the First and Second Epistles to the Thessalonians (will not drop on my system)

Seems to be a threshold re titles containing the colon.

    Using Logos 8 build 8.0.0.0591 (SR-2) on Windows 10 Home, version 1803 (build 17134.407)

As you can see it works fine for me - I am running the RC2 release of 8.1 on Windows 10 but I don't think there have been any changes in this area

Thanks for trying this Graham: not going to be easy to track down but obviously now an issue for more than just me.
