Personal Book - No license?
I just tried opening one of my personal books in Logos 8 and I get the message "You don't have a license to view this resource."
Why do I need a license to read my own personal book?

Why do I need a license to read my own personal book?Disregard the wording of the error. It just means to tell you it can't display the resource - most probably because you built it on another machine and didn't upload it.

Thanks for the reply. I figured that out shortly after I posted this question. What I'm wondering is why the source file is needed after the book is built? Thankfully I still have access to the machine on which I built the book, but if not, I would not be able to use that personal book again.

Once built there is an upload button that puts the book on the Logos servers. It can then be downloaded to any other computers that you have but not to mobile devices. The source file is needed after the book is built so that you can make changes or corrections to the book as needed.
Also you can save the source file, now in DOCX format, to PDF format for transfering to and reading on your mobile device.

The source file isn't needed once the book is compiled.
But compiling a book makes it available on that particular computer. The metadata is synched - so it will appear in your library on other systems - but the contents aren't synced unless you click the "Upload" button.
It is always recommended to keep track of the original source files so they can be modified / rebuilt if needed.

Logos does not need the source file once the book is compiled but if you do not add it to your backup files you will wish that you had

Thanks again!
I wasn't aware that was what the upload was for. I thought it was for publishing your book for others to read, and I didn't want to do that. :-)
I do have the documents backed up, they just weren't on the machine where I am now running Logos.0 -

I have created a folder on Dropbox for all my PBs so that I have access to them regardless of hardware upgrades. Your cloud/removable storage strategy will depend upon your comfort with security.

I use Microsoft OneDrive for the same purpose. All of my machines have a mapped drive to my OneDrive folders, which is where I store all of my documents and stuff. I have another drive mapped to my Azure blob storage account which is the destination drive for my actual backup software. If it ever gets deleted from OneDrive I have a backup on Azure.

Now that I know how Personal Books work, I'll make sure to build all of my books from documents stored on the cloud.

Personally use scan command to copy compiled personal book from one installation to other(s) due to upload bug => Bug: 7.2 RC 3 Regression: Personal Book Discourse Glossary
FYI: "license" error message is the same as Logos 4 => Personal Books on more than 1 computer???
Keep Smiling [:)]
