New downloads available (any way to know what exactly)?
Dear all,
I think in Logos 7 I was able to see what is included in the downloads. In Logos 8, I do not know where to look. Right now I see a notification that a new download is available (231 MB). Want to know what exactly. Is there a way to check and see what was updated?
Also, is there a way to check what is going to be in Logos 8.1 and etc?

You can always filter and sort your library under "last updated."

Logos Wiki has => Logos 8 Release Notes (maintained by Faithlife) and => Logos Release History (user maintained)

Logos 7 Home Page included dataset updates in Notification. Changes from Logos 7 to Logos 8 mentions plans to bring back Notifications in a future 8.# release. Logos 8 Library has faceted filter to show "Last Updated" or "Added" (at bottom of facet list)

I see it, thank you. Strange that Logos 8.1 is not on the list of updates. I just checked that I have 8.1, but it is not visible in this list. Always curious to know what I am being update to when the update is coming.

Library "Last Updated" shows resource(s) that have been updated while lacking program update (e.g. 8.1) and dataset update(s): e.g. thread => Dataset Updates: Monday, December 10, 2018
Logos 7 Notification included all of them, which is planned for future 8.# release (uninformed user does not know how soon).

The library is for BOOKS. "Last Updated" only assists with knowing what books were updated. If you want to know about the SOFTWARE, you will need to visit the forums and look for the "release notes" thread, as I referenced above.

Could try calling into customer service to ask for a list of items updated to be mailed out to you.. I would suspect if they got hundreds of us doing that the would find away to put an indicator back ASAP. [6]

It is my understanding that FL is working on it... however, 1) customer service couldn't tell you what was updated on YOUR system and 2) It isn't difficult to look in the library. Much easier than calling or emailing customer service. [:P]

JT I didn't mean to imply we SHOULD (in fact the little devil was meant to indicate it was not a wise or Christian thing to do).... And yes I am fairly sure they wouldn't have the info. And while I hope they are working on it, if their technical support got tied up with it I was suggesting they might realize how annoying they have made it compared to how they use to do it.... The new system has benefit in that I have Xed the list accidentally before getting it looked at, but it also has put a lot more effort into what use to be a simple single click to see.

I am wondering, why is this a problem? Typically of software companies tell you in advance what is the update about. Think about how you update apps on your phone or computer. You always know that you have an update (version of the app) and if has a, b, c, d fixes, features and etc.
I was thinking it can be the same way, no?

They aren't talking about software updates. They are referring to when resources or datasets are updated or added to their library.

Dreaming of Download Notification to show sizes of:
- Application
- Dataset(s)
- Resource(s)
Currently all three are added together for Notification message. For application, awesome would be link to Logos Wiki release notes. For dataset(s), link to forum thread would be appreciated.

As David suggested, we were currently talking about resource updates, not software updates. For the sake of the argument however, software companies DO let you know what is being updated, However the method and means is different from app to app and platform to platform. Faithlife shows you what is being updated in the RELEASE NOTES that I linked to above. You can also follow the beta thread to see what is in the pipeline.
As for resource updates, these will vary from user to user and instillation to installation. For example: My Mac Mini gets used once a month or less. The resources which would be updated if I started it up now would be different (but include) the ones being updated on my MacBook (which is used daily). Some users want to know what was updated in a given resource. That would be interesting, but cost prohibitive to Faithlife to maintain.

David you are responding to the OP who asked about both resource and software updates. He asks what is two valid questions which both deserve an answer. I understand you personally might not have the answer to both his questions. All I’m suggesting is you understand who it is you are responding to and that if it’s the OP you check what their original question(s) were before respondin. It’s a common courtesy we all need to do, I’m as guilty as the next person of not always reviewing context before answering.

In my opinion, it would be more convenient to notify about the content of an update within the tool itself - same place where you see the need to update. Going to the forum to learn is strange. Not many people would even know that it exists or would make a logical connection. I would not:-) On top, how do you know that the exact update you have is the one that is being discussed in the forum? In my opinion there is no need to reinvent the wheel. It is being done all the time by software developers and it is working nicely on iPhones, Macs and others devices I am sure:-)

The old system had a link within the app to the appropriate page. I think that solution is fine and it is my understanding that FL is working on bringing it back.

Not all apps provide info on updates within the app. We Mac users are lucky in that the (mac) App store provides us that info... but do note: It is not within the app itself!
