Another vote for Metzger & Ehrman's The Text of the New Testament: Transmission, Corruption, and Restoration
Somebody has already created a UserVoice post for this. You can vote for it here: https://suggestbooks.uservoice.com/forums/308269-book-suggestions/suggestions/32758243-the-text-of-the-new-testament-its-transmission-c
But I will also add my amen to this post.
May I ask, very sincerely, what would be the advantage of possessing this work? I thought it was quite dated & considering Ehrman’s trajectory it seems that he no longer believes his own data in this work...or am I seriously misinformed?
If my understanding is off base then I will acquire this work immediately!
A pastor friend‘s Father worked w. Metzger for a time on the DSS. I really respect Metzger’s works...just don’t want to spring for this if it’s considered archaic in the field of Textual Criticism.

And that is the BIG question in Textual Criticism: are they right today or were they correct yesterday or have they not yet found the truth?
Remember that they only make money [[sell new books]] if they state that yesterday's work was incorrect and here is [[today's]] 'truth'. (to be refuted by the next newest and most accurate book written next year)
It's a valid question. Just to illustrate, you could buy a similar volume by Kirsopp Lake in the early 1900s, following the early dicoveries of both koine fragments, and Biblical mss's. You could buy another early 1900s from Westcott that attempted to explain a major shift in mss choices. Or you could move forward and examine Aland's logic (the 'A' in NA which is presently at NA28). His is also quite dated. Or even last year, the new shake-and-bake approach that people are exercising their eyebrows on.
Or, you could wait, and see even more. All of the above have good observations, and are still sold. The Metzger one is probably the most stable, and encompassing.
BTW, Ehrman trajected earlier than this volume. But Ehrman is a recognized authority, especially on 2nd century.
Good points Denise. If you’re referring to the CBGM (think Peter Gurry) which is currently producing NTG critical texts, then this is a point I have indeed considered. In a similar vein, one of the things that drives me batty is how many ministers still appeal to Thayer, who, of course, was before Oxyrhincus.
Hey, since you mentioned NA28, I recently aquired UBS-5 w. Critical Apparatus. It is quickly becoming my go-to...love it!
But, you do make good points. And, I do still see this work cf. in many journal papers and exegetical works...so, my wife can thank you for talking me into buying this work (after it hits our account of course 😳).
