New Logos 8 deal - $100 off and gift for a friend

We’re releasing a few new deals this December, and we wanted to be sure you knew all about it. Check them out below, and respond to this thread if you have any questions. All offers expire on 12/31:
- Purchase a Logos package for the first time and you’ll get an additional $100 off. That’s on top of the launch discount. (Excludes language packages or Spanish packages.)
- Get a full upgrade (Library + Feature Set) or base package (Library + Feature Set) and you’ll receive a copy of Logos 7 Fundamentals to give to a friend for free.
- Already purchased Logos 8? Check your email over the next couple days. We’ll send you instructions for how your friend can claim their free copy of Logos 7 Fundamentals. And if that package was your first base package, you'll receive a promo code for $100 to use in the new year.

That's a pretty generous offer! Looking forward to sharing Logos 7 Fundamentals with a friend!

The offer to earn the coupon code expires on 12/31. I wouldn't think that the code itself also expires on the same day.
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

Good Point. I took "all offers" to include the free L7F package. That would be even better if it lasted a month or two so I can diligently search and find someone at my church who I know will use this. Thx!

I don't suppose it's possible to give it to more than one friend?

No. It is a unique code. Once used it can't be used again.

THIS AD IS DISHONEST. THERE IS NO $100 OFF THE LOGOS AT ALL, RATHER THEY ASSIGN A VALUE OF $100 TO THE FUNDAMENTALS. When the word plus is used it means both, not some shady interpretation. I called customer service and they refused to honor this deal. Airlines are held to advertisements. Why should Christian companies do less. I am rethinking my commitment to Logos.

Does the details in Kaleb's original post not clearly say that the $100 applies to new customers?

Karen, the discount is for those purchasing a package for the first time. You won't see it as a person who has a package already and is signed into Logos.com. If you sign out of the Logos.com site you should see this banner at the top of the page:
Nothing dishonest. You just have to approach the web site as a person who has not purchased Logos before.

Checking further:
Here is the price (when I am logged off) for Standard Starter:
The standard discount is 10% off a base package. For the Starter package that would bring the cost down to $265.49. Take $100 off and the cost is $165.49 just as posted on the web site. Everything is working.

First-time Logos purchasers do get both:
- $100 off Logos 8, and
- a coupon code for Logos 7 Fundamentals (coincidently worth $100), for a friend.
If you visit the site as a first-time customer, you can see the offer includes both, along with another bonus:
Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

I just want to say Thank you for this gift. I was able to send it to my Pastor friend, who is just using online commentaries and his study Bible from school to prepare sermons. So this deal has allowed me to give him software to do more study and sermon prep, and get into the logos infrastructure and get some free books each month, and if he has resources and funds be able to eventually buy books when he has the funds.
He has a family and so doesn't have the money to get things like this himself. So thank you Faithlife. This was a generous deal that intelligently will bring you more customers as well.
I do understand why some people that are day one buyers would be frustrated, but that is the nature of the beast. However, Faithlife has tried to give a good deal in the initial package so I am just happy Faithlife is doing stuff like this.

Mattillo asks a great question to which I have not see an official answer from Faithlife. I recently made a post with this same question (I did not know that this question had already been asked), and it would be great to get an answer to our question.

I'm logged in and there is an ad at the top of the forum saying "Save an extra $100 on Logos 8 through 12/31. No "first base package" fine print.Sorry, that's dishonest.

Sorry, that's dishonest.
The same banner is below your post. I have also received two emails today which say "There are only days left. Buy Logos 8 before the end of the year and you’ll get an extra $100 off.". No disclaimers.
I think this is disgraceful. A new low for Logos

Not to be greedy guts, but I wonder if I could get a second gift for a second friend who wants one.

This is nothing new. I remember a special promotion that Logos offered for owners of Logos 6 or 7 who had not upgraded.

I'm not sure where you saw that (on their blog?), but that ad I posted is all over the place (including at the bottom of the page here as I type) and it has no fine print and no link to fine print. When I click on it, there are no further details, just a bunch of unrelated specials.
Posting an ad all over the place (on my home page, at the top of the forum, at the bottom of every page in the forum, on my Faithlife page, and several other locations) with no asterisk, no note, and no disclaimer is sloppy. Doing it after there have already been complaints about other, similar ads is dishonest. Waiving it off with an "oh, there's a note on our blog" isn't good enough.

Banner ads generally don’t contain fine print within the ad.
The intent of a banner ad is to get people to click through it (incidentally generating ad revenue), visiting the company’s site (to then hopefully buy their product). Any disclaimer within a banner ad would stop some percentage of people from clicking through the ad, hindering page visits, and (ad and) product revenue.
I don’t think it is dishonest to not include fine print in the banner ad.
gil4 said:When I click on it, there are no further details, just a bunch of unrelated specials.
Faithlife has chosen not to show the details (or fine print) to existing customers (who are not eligible for the extra $100 savings offer).
Confusing? Probably. Dishonest? Probably not.
There are other Christmas specials that existing customers can take advantage of, as you mentioned. Can’t we be cheerful about that? Peace on earth, good will to Faithlife employees?

If there is fine print, there needs to be an indication of the fact. Generating revenue from clicks on these ads (on the homepage of users they know are ineligible) is just as dishonest as the ads themselves. (I must have clicked on the ads two dozen times trying to figure out how to get the special before I came to the forum to try to get answers.)

The term for running one ad, then telling the customer it's not available but we have these other (inferior) specials instead, is bait and switch.

gil4, I agree ... at any normal retailer, they well know the rules. Our company did.
I tried a clik-thru .. my browser nailed them.

I'm kinda with you on this. While I love all the freebies and great discounts I get from Logos, this left me feeling disappointed and a bit snookered. I don't usually assign ill motives to Logos, and I am not now, but I think this is at least an example of poor thinking and not taking advantage of the same technology that knows how to determine dynamic pricing per user--ie, either only run that add for people for whom it applies or let all know up front it is for first time purchases.

It depends upon each user's settings, but I think there is for GaoLu. Click on GaoLu's name. This should take you to a Faithlife.com page for that user. Look for a big, blue "send message" button.

Wow - the free code to give to a friend was a nice offer and good business deal bringing in another customer. Unfortunately, I just noticed the offer today... Hopefully FL offers that deal again, it may entice more current owners to purchase upgrades.

Unfortunately, I hadn't updated yet. The deal may have got me motivated to upgrade, but I must have completely missed the offer in all of secular job grind. November and December are the craziest times of the year for us at work.
I have someone who could benefit from the offer, that it would have been nice to bless.
