NIV Application Commentary
Hi all,
This one has been hanging out in my cart for most of the month and I'm needing help pulling the trigger. It's got excellent reviews on the product page, and it's one of the few sets left on my wishlist. Is the sale price worth it? Is the set as good as reviews would suggest?

Josh,
For preaching this is great. I like the way the commentary is broken up. Pull the trigger, use it, return it if you don't like it. While not as in depth as some other commentaries such as NICOT/NICNT or Word. It wins in terms of giving you application points. But for a preacher or Bible study leader this is a no brainer
The only thing I'd add is whether it's better to buy individual volumes rather than a set. The volumes do go on sale for $7.99 or $9.99 once a year or so. If you need a particular volume in the meantime you could always pick it up at the time. If you have the cash to splash and want it now, the volumes are generally excellent.
I love the NIVAC set. As a layperson, the structure of the commentary is much appreciated. It's easy to understand, has a decent amount of depth, and covers a lot of books. It's a good balance. I probably use NIVAC, NAC, and Bible Knowledge Commentary the most simply because I find them the most accessible and a big step above study bibles. I have WBC, TNTC/TOTC, Pillars, NIGTC, NICNT/NICOT, but they are not my go to's. I've assembled a collection based on "bestcommentaries.com" and have most of the volumes except BECNT. Even among the "best", NIVAC is still a valuable addition.
I also purchased this set when it went on sale for $7.99 a volume.
I paid $335.58 for my set. It has also gone on sale for $419.58
It’s a nice set, but not a must have right this moment if you don’t mind waiting for a cheaper sale.
At the end of the day, you decide how much you really need it right this moment.
As any other set, it’s uneven and redundant at times; mainly in the “bridging context“ and “Application” sections. Sometimes it tells you the same thing, but reworded.
Check it out and if you don’t like it return it as someone else suggested.

The best introduction on Hebrews I’ve read was by Neil R. Lightfoot. Unfortunately, is not available in Logos:

I’d definetely Buy it if it was available 👍😁👌
