95-Year Copyright Law Extension
Here's a New York Times article that discusses that beginning yesterday and every January 1 going forward, we'll see books that were previously copyright protected for 95 years enter the public domain. Books published in 1923 have run their course. For Bible aficionados like us, this means that, for example, J. Gresham Machen's New Testament Greek for Beginners is in the public domain. Maybe now that the cost of producing this work is lower, Logos will add it. Do you know of other books published in 1923 that would be good candidates?

A problem here is that copyright protection varies by territory, and without extensive research the actual legal status of individual works can be hard to establish and can sometimes be in doubt.

I think Logos has always worked with US copyright limits but they are generally the highest in the English speaking world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries%27_copyright_lengths

"Some studies show that extending copyright can actually have a negative impact on the sales and availability of books. A few years ago, Paul J. Heald, a law professor at the University of Illinois, used software that randomly sampled books available on Amazon, and discovered that there were more new editions of books published in the 1910s than from titles published in the 2000s. Publishers often stop printing books that aren’t selling, but still retain the copyright, so no one else can release new editions. Once the books enter the public domain, a wider variety of new editions become available again, filling in a hole in the public and cultural record."
Goodness, if that was ever true, it is at the Faithlife publishing house. It's their bread and butter!

Actually, it's not well know but the vast majority of works published before 1964 are already in the public domain in the United States. Before that the rule was copyright had to be renewed after 28 years, which was rarely done.
