Logos 8 "Go Box" Layouts don't work as expected

I have recently upgraded to Logos 8, and was running through the MP Quick Start videos (looking for anything new).  The "Bible Study With Go and Guides" videos describe the ability to open enhanced layouts for Topics Study and Passage Study.

However, the examples Morris depicted don’t match functionality in my Logos 8.

Topic Study:

When Morris types “open topic to baptism” in the Go Box, he gets a Layout section in the drop down box, which opens a very nice Topic layout.

When I type the same thing in the Go Box, this is what I get, no option in the drop down box to open a Topic Study layout.

Passage Study:

Different issue with using the Go Box with Passage Study.  Morris has an example where he types “luke 4.1-4” in the Go Box, he gets a Layout section in the drop down box.  I also get the Layout section in the drop down box.  However, the layouts that open in my Logos 8 are quite different that his.

Morris’ layout has a Passage and Exegetical Guide on the left, his top 5 prioritized bibles on the top center, his top prioritized commentary on the bottom center, and the Information window and Text Comparison on the left.

When I open the same reference in the Go Box, I get a Passage layout, but with the no Exegetical Guide, only my top 3 prioritized bibles, and no Text Comparison window.

So, is there a way to update these layouts, or are my “Go Box” layouts broken, or what?

For background, here is my Prioritized Resources:  (not the whole list, but only the top part of the prioritized list that is relevant).

Thanks

There was a change to the software between the time the video was recorded and Logos 8.0 was released - the new command is "open topic guide to baptism"

This is due to software changes again - to do the with layout itself and also to do with the number of preferred Bibles.

    This is summarised at https://community.logos.com/forums/p/176669/1020897.aspx#1020897

However, as noted there, you can change the layout to what you want and then override the default from the layouts menu

If this doesn't make sense please post back

    Thanks Graham for the information.

So, as you said, the "Go Box" Passage Study Layout is tied to the "Home Page Layouts - Passage Study".  I updated this layout to include the Exegetical Guide, and used the "Replace with current layout" as you described.  Now the "Go Box' layout includes the updated Passage Study layout from the "Home Page Layouts" as desired.

I did make some progress with the "Go Box" Topic layout, but there is still some inconsistencies.

    • I had been trying to use the Go Box command "open topic to baptism" from the video, which gave no options for layout.
    • The Go Box command "open topic guide to baptism" you mentioned only opens the topic guide, and does not open a layout.
    • I experimented and found the Go Box command "open topic study to baptism" does give options to open and a topic layout.  Choosing a topic layout opens a rich topic study layout very similar to the example of the Morris Proctor video.
    • However, this Go Box Topic Layout is not tied to the Topic Study layout under "Home Page Layouts" or the Topic Study layout under "Quickstart Layouts".  So, if I update this "Go Box" Topic Study Layout, there is no way to save it.

    Does this make sense?

Apologies - I forgot this distinction.

I've just tested this and changing the Topic Study layout in the Home Page Layouts section - and then "Replacing with current layout" updates what happens when I use the open command again.

This is with Logos 8.2 beta 2 on Windows 10. What version on which platform are you using?

Ahh. I was also able to replace the Topic Study layout under the Home Page Layouts with an updated "Go Box" Topic Study layout.  Now opening a Topic Study Layout using the Go Box drop down, I get my updated MP Topic Study Layout I saved in Home Page Layouts.

    Outstanding.

Also, I Logos Bible Software 8.1 (8.1.0.0016) running on Win 7 Pro SP1.

    Thanks so much.
