    Welcome to the forums, Adam.

I'm assuming that for the price you quote, the upgrade doesn't include Logos feature upgrades, only additional resources to your library. So, the question is whether you want the new resources in that package that you currently do not have.

As Bill mentioned, only you know how much value to assign to the resources that you would gain. go here - https://www.logos.com/compare/libraries/Standard and select "New to You" so that you can see what resources you would be gaining.

    Welcome Adam! [:)]

Bill and David replied to you well, but I thought I would throw in my 2¢.

    • Make sure you realize that there is nothing special about moving from one version of "silver" to another version of "silver." Just because you previously had "silver," does not mean that that you need/should/must purchase the "new" version of "silver." You could purchase Gold, Bronze or any other level.
    • The fact that you previously had "silver" is irrelevant to everything... except as it relates to "dynamic pricing." Any resource which you previously purchased will give you a discount on any future purchases. There are no more special discounts for "staying at the same level."
    • As Bill mentioned, make sure that you are aware of purchasing a library by itself OR a "full feature upgrade" along with the library. (see screenshot below... also note: the price you see in the screenshot is MY price based upon a combination of academic AND dynamic pricing).
    • As David mentioned, you should review the "new to you" resources. All of the other resources you already own, so removing them from view is helpful in making your decision.
    • Make sure to review the various "denominational" libraries, in addition to the "standard" one. You may find a combination more appealing to you.
    • Lastly, you should review the discount percentage for the libraries SMALLER than the one you are interested in. Mark Barnes discovered that there is an advantage to purchasing the HIGHER discounted packages FIRST. Case Study: If you see that Silver is a discount of 76%, but Bronze is discounted at 84%, you may save some money by making TWO purchases rather than one. Buy the Bronze package, then immediately purchase the Silver one. I can't guarantee this will work for you... but it did work for me. (I wrote down the price before purchase, then totaled up the two prices afterwards.)

Thank you for the information gentlemen.

I just looked at the new books included and am on the fence as to if it will be worth it or not, but will decide pretty quickly.

I guess I thought going from Logos 7 to 8 would be an upgrade (more features/options in the software etc).

    It definitely is.

There's the new Notes system, faceted filtering (in the library, the Notes and many places else), workflows, canvas, more ways to share documents, including those just mentioned... The Lexham Survey of Theology which wants to explain all of Systematic Theology in a structured approach (234 categories in its topical tree).

The completely new homepage, geared toward being the launch-pad for things rather than to do them there, and aiming at the same look and feel accross all platforms (which admittedly means currently a lot less functionality than L7 desktop has in it) is at least different.

Have joy in the Lord! Smile

There are a lot of new things that would be worthwhile.  Thanks for the information!

JT's bit of advice here is super valuable!

Even though I've bought Platinum in the past. I am a Faithlife Connect subscriber so I have access to all the datasets as soon as they are released so it came down to a matter of resources for me. I found that buying a group of denominational starter and bronze sets (see below) was a better value for my purposes than going with gold or platinum in one tradition. I reached out to my sales rep who was able to bundle the 6 upgrades into one purchase that would have been cheaper than just doing it online. He was able to leverage all the different discount levels (as Mark Barnes and JT have mentioned) to get me a good deal. Mike dot Brown at Faitlife dot com is the sales guy I'm very pleased with.

I am most interested in the commentaries.  Will do a little more research and then talk to my sales rep.

    Thanks for the help!

I don't know if this was explicitly stated, but just in case it isn't clear to you: If you don't purchase anything, you will have the ability to gain the L8 engine for free. Any previous features that you own will carry over, along with some new ones. To gain ALL of the new features, however, you need to purchase the "full feature set" OR subscribe to Faithlife Connect. If you purchase a library WITHOUT the "full feature set," it would be the same as you getting the free L8 engine... just a few months earlier.

I am most interested in the commentaries.

If you do not own The Bible Knowledge Commentary, it is a great one volume commentary for quick reference. The Tyndale Commentaries are good as well. Those two items, regular priced, are about $320.

    Me too! By picking up the 6 denominational packages I was able to get Biblical Illustrator; Fausset & Brown; Reading the Bible as Literature; LifeGuide Bible Studies; Bible Speaks Today; New Covenant Commentary series; Bible Knowledge Background Commentaries; Founders Study Guide Commentaries; Mentor Commentaries; Fortress; Barnhouse on Romans; Life Application Bible Commentaries; & Cornerstone Biblical Commentaries;

I have the Tyndale Commentaries and love them.  Will have to check out the Bible Knowledge Commentary.

It's too bad I didn't do this before Logos 8 came out.  It would have been much cheaper to get the 6 denominational packages.  For now it looks like the Silver package upgrade with the 6 denominational packages will be the way to go.

    Thanks for all the help!

Keep in mind that the 25% discount off your first L8 purchase can be applied to all the packages if you call Sales and have them work out pricing for a combined order (which would factor in any duplicate resources that the packages might share).

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!
