Logos 8 Notes - Will they get fixed?

Help, Help, Help – PLEASE…..

The NOTE System in Logos 8 needs to be fixed, please………

I cannot copy the Anchors from one note to another.

I cannot rearrange the anchors.

The anchor/links to all the information in books that I copy and paste into a note do not work in the BODY of the Note, anymore.

The Citation does not link or anchor to the information anymore.

I used to be able to Copy all the links/anchors by Citation from one note to another and NOW that does not work.

I used to be able to rearrange my link/anchors in the Body of the note by simply moving the information around.

This is a huge problem for many people.

You cannot rearrange the anchors or copy them from one note to another.

I guess if I could do that this problem would not be so bad.

I was told that they are going to Fix these issues.

Will we be able to rearrange the Anchors and copy them from one note to another or not.

PLEASE, let me know.

If I would have known this was going to happen I would NOT have upgraded and now I am very reluctant to upgrade in the future.

The NOTES have been ruined a little.

Yes, you can search for them better. But, when you find them you cannot do what you used to be able to do.

How is that better.

PLEASE, just let me know if you are working on these specific problems or not.

I am not trying to be a big problem.

I used to LOVE your software notes. Now it is much harder to work in the BODY of the note.

This is a problem. I posted some time ago about having lost the ability to drag and drop within a note and to the note from external resources. Not having active external links is a big problem for me also. Unfortunately I did not get a response. The problem as I see it is that the notes program was implemented as a stand alone program with no regard to basic windows features and scaling's that mirror the rest of Logos 8. Updates should add to and improve … not take away from existing features and layouts.

I have had the thought that perhaps this is just my problem and need to do a complete, fresh install. This update has been frustrating for me.

We do based on are position in Christ want to be patient and loving, but with years of use and thousands of dollars in proprietary resources it is difficult.

I wrote them this 2 days ago. If I do not get a response I will write to them every week for months until they at least acknowledge my letter. I am giving you a copy of what I wrote so you can possibly write them again in similar fashion.

Does anyone at the Corporate and Sales Levels know about all the complaints about the New Note System?

We hate to complain, but this is HURTING our ministries and research.

I have been with you for OVER 10 Years and I have upgraded 2 times.

I have loved the program and have referred many people to it, until now.

The new NOTE System is so messed up and I cannot refer anyone else nor upgrade to any new versions until the NOTES copy the links to citation Resources as it used to...

That was the most efficient and powerful aspect of the NOTES in my opinion.
NOW IT IS GONE and the work has become 10 times harder to do than before.

I have ALREADY contacted the programmers, but I see no improvement.

Does anyone in corporate office or the sales team care that customers you have had for over 10 years are extremely disappointed and will no longer Upgrade nor refer new customers?

I hope this gets resolved soon.

I know many others who are HURT by this so-called improvement.

The whole Notes area of Logos 8 is useless to me as a teaching tool until:

    1. Each Notebook shows all its Notes in order by reference
    2. The notes can be exported to Word or Excel with references included.
Exporting as a table was very handy. That's gone, now.

I would love to hear from Faithlife their estimate of when these will be ready for prime time. <sigh>

Hi, everyone. These features are some of our highest priorities to get functional in the new Notes tool. I hesitate to make any predictions on when you'll see them in the app, because there are always unforeseen complications-- for example, sorting by reference is at the top of our most-wanted list, but it's not as simple as it sounds. It needs some server-side changes, which in turn requires us to upgrade some of the server hardware before we can proceed. Nevertheless, it's vital part of the notes experience, which we are committed to.

Other features, like hyperlinking citations, should come sooner than later. We are also making progress on Ctrl+F find, search integration, and more.  We are doing our best to balance our work to deliver the most value to the greatest number of notes users. We really believe the new Notes tool will prove to be a better system in the end; thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Thank You Adam.  I am a New Logos user, although I dabbled in the free version of Logos 7, Logos 8 is the first Logos version I actually did purchase.  Prior to purchasing it, I used Olive Tree and have used (e-sword for several years) and purchased several of their resources.  By far Logos 8 is the most advanced piece of biblical software I have ever used.  I appreciate knowing that this is a priority for the developers.  I understand that everything that you just can't add a line of code to fix it.  Thank you for your diligence.  I will continue to recommend the product, because it is a great product, certainly not perfect, but great none the less.  There are certainly limitations with the new notes tool, but coming from 7 to 8, in understand the concept and why the changes were made.  Hopefully soon, it will all be integrated and working.

    Best to you.

    YUP!!!!

I need to warn people who are upgrading that the NOTE SYSTEM is not as good as LOGOS 7

We are starting a You-Tube Channel to warn people who want to UPGRADE.

They need to BRING BACK the Functions of LOGS 7 Notes.

New customers will not know the difference, but those using LOGOS 7 need to be warned.

I hope they listen and bring back the functions that many of us NEED.

    Peace to you always.

They have published a list of what they will be implementing? Is there anything not on that list you think should be there? https://www.logos.com/faq/notes

As far as warning people, this is a bit extreme. You CAN STILL USE Logos 7 notes by switching to the old notes system while they work on the new.

    Thanks for telling me this.

I will be patient more now.

Let's see how the next 3 months go.

I really need the hyperlink citations more than anything.

    Thanks

    Peace to you always.

Thanks for your patience, Levi (and everyone). Our dev team is working hard on bringing new Notes to feature parity with the old system. 8.2 will ship next week, with some of those improvements, and citation hyperlinks and sort by reference are still a high priority on the road map.

Levi, thanks especially for the screencasts; it's always helpful to see exactly how the software is used in real life, and we are evaluating your feedback. This is a bit tangential, but can you elaborate on why you have so many Note panels open? How do you benefit from having so many Notebooks open at once? What do you use them for?

I am grateful for your answers. I care for you all. To answer your question:

I have multiple notes open because I Multi-Task - Multi-TASKING IS ESSENTIAL to Efficiency - Identifying the note without having to click it, like it used to be in Logos 7, is enormously beneficial. You must have known how awesome that feature is or you would not have put it in Logos 7.

Also, keep in mind, we use many different layouts with many different notes in each layout. When we open an older layout to continue work on a project, we forget exactly which notes we are using and it is a pain to have to click the tab and to see what notebook it is, especially when you already offered a solution to this problem in Logos 7.

I have updated a short video explaining another issue as well. I hope it helps.

I hope to promote the software in a better light after the problems are fixed.

Thanks for all your hard work. Goe, bless you always, my friend.

    Thanks, Levi.

it is a pain to have to click the tab and to see what notebook it is,

Yes, I understand that from your videos. We should be able to address that fairly simply.

I have multiple notes open because I Multi-Task

Can you say more about this?

    • How do you use notebooks to organize your notes? (by topic, reference, presentation, something else?)
    • What specific tasks are you performing that it helps to have multiple notebooks open at once?

My Reasons for how and why I am using so many notebooks at once:

    1 - Simple/ Quick Reference

2 – Research: collecting, storing, organizing and building a Database for future use.

Everything is Stored and categorized by Title NAME – The Name of the Note.

I find that I am spending more time collecting, storing, organizing and building a Database for future use than I am using the Notes for quick reference. And that is fine with me because we are building a cross-reference database for our entire community.

Anyone can quickly find amazing data the way we are building our note system using the Logos 7 Notes. Hopefully, the Logos 8 will catch up.

Let me show you what I mean in this video.

    hi Adam

Maybe, using NOTEBOOKS as large   seperate  stand alone RESOURCES in their own right for reading, and amending content has sometimes been overlooked by logos??? I could easily have 20 or 30 or more  LOGOS 7 NOTE FILES open, and 80 resource books, plus more-across four monitors for using LOGOS 7 NOTE FILES  in a variety of ways, not  just for using notes as  "post it notes" but  NOTE FILES as seperate  stand alone RESOURCES in their own right, ( I had this dialogue with Dan about 7 years ago before the split screen was restored) ( unlike PB's which require reworking and rebuiling etc, whereas  NOTE FILES can be edited in real time on an ongoing basis... each edit) .

One of 20 examples of diferent uses for titled LOGOS 7 NOTE FILES  - is for   speed reading text books and running a note file alongside one book to cross reference and summarise  highlight notes made in the book, then to use the NOTE FILE to cross reference from one text book to another Also  and drag notes from one to the other

Having many LOGOS NOTE FILES open requires

1/  ON SCREEN ORGANISATION and 2/ NOTE CREATION as frictionaless as in Logos 7 notes

ISSUE 1/  ON SCREEN ORGANISATION -  having the **notebook TITLE show up in the WINDOWS TAB,*** -

as it is a real nuisance if working with 20-30 notes files open, ( adding notes to any of each ) knowing which one is where... the notes tool can have multiple instances open...which is good, but currently the trade off for a note file power user is not knowing which one is where, especially when using NOTEBOOKS as OPEN RESOURCES TO READ, and text edit.....

hen for making notes while speed reading several books at the same time, putting notes into any of several  different ntoe files ..

ISSUE 2/ NOTE CREATION as frictionaless as in Logos 7 notes

**sending a newly created NOTE  DIRECTLY  to  a selected LOGOS 7 NOTE FILE

( after right clicking the highlighted text) ,  the Context menu  **

in LOGOS 7 note files There would be a choice of open NOTE FILES to choose from in the CONTEXT MENU -

The form of the highlight would be the same as before - Without any need for further tagging or renaming -

    est wishes

    Michael

    hi Wayne

love the u tube video! I have four monitors especially for LOGOS  - which were great with LOGOS 7 NOTE FILES ( and resources  ,

( sadly  LOGOS 8 NOTES TOOL has thus far  missed  the point of on screen organisation.... hoping for change now!)

    best wishes

    Michael
