Still waiting for Beta 1 DVD in Oz and it may not arrive before Beta 2! My download budget for the month is already well spent ....

  • can I update my Beta 1 installation from the DVD for the syntax resources?
  • can I delay the Beta 2 download until the above is accomplished**?
  • will there be any future Beta DVD's?

** I'm assuming Beta 2 download will automatically install syntax resources if not present, else update them.

    1) Installing Beta 1 from the DVD should copy the syntax resources to your hard drive, and discover them the next time Beta 1 runs.

    2) Beta 1 will automatically check for updates and download them (Beta 2 download is ~25MB), but there will be no further downloads until Beta 2 is installed. So you can choose not to install the upgrade (the system will just nag you at startup) until you're ready for further downloads.

    3) If we make substantial changes to the installer, we would probably do another DVD test (to test upgrading) but we are not planning to have DVDs for Beta 2 or 3.

** Yes, Beta 2 will automatically install update syntax/media/reverse interlinear, etc. resources.

Bradley does this 25MB count include things like infograhics and timelines that a number of us seemed to miss out on in beta 1 or will that be addtional data and if so how much.  Its something that might be relevant to those whose who have download limit concerns.

The 25MB is just the program itself; updated resources are extra. I don't have exact figures, but a "basic" upgrade (the infographics & timelines) will be around 600MB. If you own the syntax resources and Greek pronunciation addin (in LDLS3), you could be looking at another 500+ MB or so.

Beta 1 will download the 25MB update to Beta 2 automatically. Once Beta 2 is installed, you could open the Program Settings, set "Use Internet" to No (screenshot attached) and restart the app. If you're quick enough (doing this in less than a minute should work), the program shouldn't ever look for resource updates.

However, we did change some internal formats between Beta 1 & 2, so without the updates, Biblical People, Places, & Things won't work in Beta 2. And without "resource hiding" support in Beta 2, there's no way to opt out of the downloads of large resources that you may not want, so it's all or nothing.

Thanks Bradley,  now all I need is for beta 2 download to actually work.  Please see my post about issues I am having with it here

So if i'm not quick enough I'm committed to 1100+ MB of updates with the option only of switching off my computer?

You can right-click the Indexer icon and choose Cancel Download. (But it'll already have started, and I don't know for sure if that will cancel all scheduled downloads (one per resource file) or just the current one.)

And then there's no way to manually resume it; see http://community.logos.com/forums/p/1326/10697.aspx#10697

Just installed Beta 2 on my work computer and it is currently downloading 1.6 gigs! of updates. I don't have a download concern, but this is quite large and doesn't really match the numbers you have given. What all is being downloaded?
