I want to look up the phrase '4 sore judgements' in Logos. Whats the best way to do that? Are there some videos or text to show me how best to use Logos to search for words or phrases? Thanks!
Valerie
To search for a phrase, surround it with quotes. Here's a wiki page - http://wiki.logos.com/Search_HELP. And this page has a ton of videos - some of them dealing with searches - http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Video_Tutorials.
Valerie,
It always helps to think about what you're aiming for before you search...
Are you asking this Q:
"Which bible uses the phrase" "sore judgments"?
OR
Are you asking "How does each translation render the Greek or Hebrew words"?
I actually don't remember reading that phrase at all but you get what I'm saying; it helps to think about what exactly you're going after and why, then that will taylor your search more closely to give you more realistic and meaningful results.
EDITED TO ADD: I don't remember reading that one because the phrase because it's an older phrase from KJV and Darby etc.
Look up Ezekiel 14:21 and then push "F7" to see how each bible renders the Hebrew words underlying the English.
I was using it as an example of a phrase. I obviously need to bone up on my search techniques.
Ok...I understand....
I guess the simple point of that long explanation was: know what your asking and who you want to ask...lol...
That always helps me, I rarely do an Entire Library search unless I've no clue what resource might talk about it...and then i do that to get an idea and the usually search that collection.
I rarely search any English terms either; I guess I just don't see the point...other than seeing how translators (who are much smarter than me) translated a give word or phrase and thereby shed more light on the Greek or Hebrew word...this helps if the word has few usages or the meaning is somewhat questionable in a given passage.
I hope that helps..whoops...long winded again...sorry.
I did a phrase search in L4Mac and here's what I got.
Notice that the phrase must be embedded in double quotes " not single quotes ' .
Then hit return and see how it runs. Results in next to no time!
Every blessing
Alan
