Help with Passage Guide Sections
I need to know if there's a way to keep the Passage Guide sections closed when results are being populated instead of opened.
It'd be nice if when you type a passage all the sections in the PG were closed and then you opened each as needed. Instead, every time I run a PG all the sections in the PG automatically appear open while populating and I have to close them every time.
This is what I want it to look like when I type any passage to study:
Instead, I get this every time and that's not how I want it:
Any help to get it to do what I want it to do will be greatly appreciated. I'm starting to get tired of closing all the clutter it populates every time I want to study a passage.
Thanks!
DAL
PS. I tried closing every section and then saving the layout with everything closed, but it doesn't work; it always goes back to opening every section in the PG every time I type a new passage to study.

This works for me and I just retested that it works on the newest release. However, it is the open/closed status is stored for the Guide, I believe not for the layout. So you need the sections closed when you last closed the Guide.

Thanks for your quick response, MJ!
However, I'm not sure I follow. How do I save the guide so when I type a passage and open my custom layout it stays with the sections closed?
Thanks again!

The only way I have achieved this is to create a specific Master Passage Guide for each book of the bible with specific sections, then save it- with sections closed. I save it as i.e. Ephesians MPG, that way I only use this guide for all work done in Ephesians.

Thanks! I don’t know how, but I got it to do what I want 👍😁👌
Now Every time I type in a passage in the command box and hit ”Go” it runs my custom passage guide with all the sections closed!
Thanks!

Whenever you exit the guide - close it directly, close in closing the layout, or close in closing the application, as I understand it the Guide will remember its state - sections included and expand/contract - and use it the next time you open the Guide.

I did it differently. I typed a passage, waited for everything to populate and then closed the guide sections. After that, I refreshed the guide with everything closed, waited for everything to populate and then went to my custom layout and saved it to “current layout.” After that, when I typed a passage in the command box my layout opened and every section in the guide was closed 👍😁👌 I think is more convenient for me than creating a Master Guide for every book of the Bible.
Anyway, I’m just glad I don’t have to close all the sections anymore. Especially in Logos 8 which has way more sections than L7 had.
Thanks for your help, MJ! And thanks for your suggestion Whyndell, even if I didn’t end up using it!

Victory was short lived! Last night it started working fine and now it reverted back to the same everything opened behavior. This is really inconvenient and creating a custom guide for everything is not useful either. It’s time consuming! Logos is supposed to simply and make things easier and so far L8 has complicated too many things already.

Hi DAL
My, admittedly simple, Passage Guide when closed with cross marked on the screen shot, and by just closing the main window and quitting Logos survives a restart in the semi-closed way that I like it open.

I just tested a number of different scenarios.
If I close a guide with all sections collapsed, when I reopen the guide all sections are collapsed.
If I save a layout that includes a guide with sections expanded, then close that layout; if I open a guide that was in the layout (with sections expanded) then the guide opens with the same sections expanded.
If I collapse all sections in that guide, close it, and then open the layout I saved with the expanded guide, that guide is not collapsed.
That is the way it is designed to work. For me it works that way on Mac and Windows. Can you post a screen cast that demonstrates what you are doing and that causes you to see different behavior?

So create guide first, then save, then open saved guide and finally create layout with saved guide and save?

And it’s back up and working fine again! Must be a bug 🐜 or something. I tried it before doing anything else and it’s back to working. So I’ll leave it alone for now. Long live victory 👍😁👌
