Ancient Writing on Text
Hey everyone. I need your help:
How can I look up ancient writing on particular texts? For example, Joshua 14:15b says "Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim." I'd like to look up any additional writing throughout history, or ancient Hebrew literature, on Arba to read about him.

Two ideas that may provide what you're looking for.
First, you could run an Ancient Literature guide on that passage. A alternative would be to run a Passage Guide that included the Ancient Literature section.
Second, you could search the Factbook tool.

In order of easiest to more involved:
1. Use your Factbook in Tools, and enter the name
2. Do a Basic type search. This a liitle more tricky. You'd need to use "arba -kiriath" in order to avoid the place
3. One of the guides (passage, exegetical) has an Ancient Literature section. This is also a little tricky.
4. You can create a collection of ancient literature, assign it to a CitedBy panel (which attaches to your Bible). That's what I do.

Denise, what is the rule you use to capture all of the "Ancient Literature" resources into your collection (if you don't mind sharing)?

Hopefully other forumites can chime in, Marvin. I'm a drag-n-dropper and tagger. I don't buy packages, so each purchase has a desired use (and tag, collection).
In my layout, two of the screens are OT, and NT, and the each has CitedBy panels. For the OT, I have the usual ANET/COS collection, and then resources grouped by location (Egypt, Canaan, Ugarit, Mesopotamia/Hittite, and a special aramaic). For the NT, CitedBy resources are grouped by apocrypha/pseudepigrapha, the fathers, NT apocrypha and Strack/Billerbeck.
This probably doesn't help .... sorry!

There are places where you can find complex rules. I would start with
type:"Ancient Manuscript"
That will capture the resources in your library that Logos classifies as an Ancient Manuscript.
Most of those resources would likely be captured running a Passage Guide that includes the Ancient Literature section.
If you are interested in finding more complex rules, subscibe to one of the Faithlife Collections groups. You can also search the wiki for collections. There you will find rules users have created and posted.

All 3 searches were very helpful. Exactly what I was looking for, although all the resources are locked for me. But I'm pretty sure this is what I'm looking for!

I do have a question on Point 2... I tried the search (for example: "judas -iscariot") but the Basic search seems to still yield verses related to the item. Am I doing something wrong?

Using the everything or all an all resources search will include bibles. It really depends on what your trying to accomplish. If I was doing a study of Judas for example, I would start with a bible search <Person Judas Iscariot>. This will return every verse where he is mentioned or included. Then I would turn to Factbook and review dictionary and other resource articles related to Judas

Try removing the quotes from the search string

Those results are from the Fuzzy Bible Search section. That section ignores search operators and tries to find verses related to the words you typed in. If you're doing an exact search, collapse that section and use the Verse Results section instead.
